Based on recent play
Gio-Andersson
Hanifin-Hamonic
Valimaki-Stone
Kylington-Brodie
Fattenburg-Prout
Brodie is torching his trade value with his recent horrendous play

^ I would rank Fantenberg a little higher but admittedly thats a small sample size / recency bias.
Otherwise spot on. Especially about Brodie hurting his trade value. Imagine if he sits out playoff games, which is a distinct possibility.
Also I could see those top 6 as our playoff pairs.

Based on recent play? I don't think 3 games in the AHL puts Stone above anyone currently playing in the NHL other than Prout and maybe not even him.

I don't think so. Jake Gardiner will fetch a long term $5+ million deal this summer and he's as close to an equivalent as there is to Brodie. There's a market for good skating/passing defensemen in their 20's even if they are prone to mistakes as Leafs fans hate on Gerdiner a lot.

Would a team rather give Gardiner a $5M deal as a UFA or pay multiple future assets for one year of Brodie?
I was hoping the Flames would be able to land a high pick or very good prospect for Brodie at the draft. Right now I am not seeing it.

Then your best bet is to give Brodie prominent minutes in the playoffs and hope he keeps it together. A good playoff performance can erase a lot of regular season mistakes

Based on how our D pairings have played recently I would also look at Valimaki or Stone to replace Brodie in the lineup.

Valimaki is dominating the AHL and Stone appeared to be fine in his stint. A top prospect and NHL veteran are guys I would trust over our rookie, struggling veteran and 2 bubble guys.

I think we see all 10 with at least a couple games down the stretch.
Come playoff time, is there more than three who are guaranteed to play every game when healthy? Gio, Hanafin, Hamonic?

After watching last night's game, I would agree that Brodie either needs a night or two off, or a few games with less responsibilities (third pair) to reset. We'll need the "Brodano" pairing going like they were earlier in the year by the time playoffs get here.
I think the only combo locked in is the middle pair:
Giordano - Andersson / Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Brodie - Stone / Valimaki - Brodie / Fantenberg - Brodie
or
Kylington - Stone / Kylington - Andersson / Valimaki - Andersson / Fantenberg - Andersson
with the only combo I would not try out on the bottom pair being Kylington - Brodie

I'm pretty excited to see what Rasmus brings in a playoff style game. I think he's going to really excel.

Brodie should be sitting asap. His trade value is decreasing with every single game played after the allstar break.
Soon we'll have to package a pick with him to get him out.... haha

I’m not sure that being a healthy scratch really increases his trade value.
In the end, I care much more about this season’s results than the marginal differences in trade value for a player who may be traded at some point in the future. Just let Peters do his thing

I really don't think that trade value works like this.
I imagine that Brodie for all his flaws is still viewed league-wide as a high risk / high reward type of defenseman. He will score 40 points this year for the third time in his career, which is his sixth consecutive +30-point season. He still ranks in the top-40 of offensive producers from the blue line, and while he is prone to error a lot more often than we would like, he is a standout skater in a League that thrives on great skating.
Brodie is a top four defenseman on all but a select handful of teams. Regardless of his recent play, bonafide top-four defensemen are worth a small fortune in trade value. Especially those who skate really well and can produce in the NHL's top-40. That's not changing any time soon.

Well whoever takes him on after this year, they better have a Giordano, if not 6 of them.

If the Flames start sitting Brodie at the end of the year, his value is fine. If they sit him during the playoffs, they had best adjust their internal price tag for him cause its going to take a tumble league wide.

I don't think most people view Brodie quite like the handful of posters here on CP. I think most view him as a more than capable top 4.
