Much like Edmonton, Ottawa needs to pay a premium for players to consider playing there long term. I bet stone would take less than 10.5 on a team of his choosing.

I could see that working
There are a few players I would be happy to sign for eight years. 27-year-old Mark Stone is not one of them.

He is a pending UFA. I think it much more likely that he would just wait it out until summer and sign with whomever he wants for close to the Ottawa offer.

The more i think about it, the more i realize that Zuccarello would be the best deadline addition. He will be much cheaper than stone and i think he is exactly what this team needs. If it goes well we can try signing him to a reasonable number after trading frolik. Paying long term for Mark Stone just seems like a recipe for disaster and while Duchene would be nice, the cost too much imo.

I doubt he sees that kind of money from anyone else but Ottawa.

Im guessing he doesnt want to be there so he turned it down and heads to FA where he may get a bit less but be in a spot he wants.

Sens came with 5 yrs @ $10.5 mil per to Stone.
Winnipeg and Calgary will be in on Stone
I like Stone, but i'd pass on that trade... giving up major assets and the trying to fit him under the cap at that number is just a non-starter for me at least.

I don't think he's a 10.5 million dollar player.... personally, i see 8.5 as a max i'd consider for Stone

Id love Dutchy on the Flames and would buy his jersey the same day he was traded, but don't think it's happening. Blue jackets need some flair for when they lose their two UFAs and I think Duchene signs there.

He looks more and more like a pure rental for any team if he's not going to take that offer.

The 10.5M is for him to stay in Ottawa, much like how Lindholm was offered 5.5M to stay in Carolina but took 4.8M to play in Calgary.

I don’t think Lindholm was ever offered that much. I thought he asked for $5M and the Canes wouldn’t do it.

How dumb does that look in retrospect eh??

At this point I would gladly take either of duchene or stone. We can worry about the contract extension after playoffs. If we get stone, lindy can center line 2. If we get duchene, he centers line 2. Whichever of stone or duchy is cheaper as a rental is the one we should be gunning for.

Getting Duchene with an extension would make me mighty happy.

but its not just the extension that's the only concern - the acquisition cost is also a concern.

if you are going to be giving up a lot of talent in the sweepstakes, which Stone appears to be tracking towards, you don't want to give that up for a pure rental...

a 1st, a top prospect and a roster player for a rental? i am not sure i'd do that...

Oilers resisted lowball offers on Puljujarvi but the player is not happy there

With Laine and Connor needing contracts next year, I could see the Jets focusing more on trying to get a deal on Puljujarvi than making a push for Stone, given the money being talked about. See if any magic happens between him and Laine again. Even if Stone took Wheeler money instead of $10M+ it would make things tough for the Jets with the cap going forward.

It's before the drama had erupted in the media, but the tension of it was likely already manifesting itself in the dressing room. The court filings say the harassment went back to November 2017, which is exactly the same time as Duchesne was traded there.

As everyone knows CGY is 2nd overall with 4 D 22 and under. I wouldn't trade any of them for a rental.

I kinda felt like Duchene and Nashville have always been a fit.

I think he ends up there with an extension in place.

Having Nashville end up with Duchene and Turris, and the Avs getting the 1st Overall Pick would be one hell of a kick in the teeth for Senators fans.

I don't. He may end up there as a rental but I think it makes too much sense for him to sign with Montreal as a UFA. They desperately need a true #1 C and he loved the organization growing up.
