Probably the biggest Oilers moment in the past ten years.

Only way to take heat off the OBC is to create a new OBC.
Boyd Gordon and Magnus Paajarvi are quickly writing in NTC to their contracts.

Sounds like the Oilers are sending Puljujarvi to the AHL to open up the roster spot for Gagner
edit: nm. they put Benning on IR to be able to call up Gagner

HUGE win for the Oilers!

Either way they set a new precedent.
The Oil managed to find a way to lose a trade with themselves.
Or
The Oil finally found a way to win a Trade, by trading with themselves.

Do the Oilers actually think they are going to make the playoffs?

"He knows our system and knows how to do well in it. He once put up 8 points in a single game. We've got to bring back the hero's to lift this team to new heights."
I'm sure that's close to the spin they'll put on it.

No, they actually took on more.
Gagner has one more year at $3.15 million and Spooner has one more year at $3.1 million (his total cap hit is $4 million but the Rangers retained $900,000 when he was traded to the Oilers).
In terms of cash, Gagner makes $3.2 million next year and Spooner would have cost them $3.1 million. So, they've added $50,000 in cap hit and $100,000 in real dollars.

If you want to back it up one more step. Eberle pick was acquired for Pronger.
So essentially, Pronger for round two of Gagner.
But if you want the Oiler spin on it...
The Oilers have traded away their 2008 22nd overall pick to acquire the 2007 6th overall pick!!!!!!
