Whaaaa? You know what the UHL is right? It's a third tier defunct pro league and his team was shutting down when Phoenix just happened to come calling.

Tod Button was an AC with Washington for three years before he got a job as a scout with Calgary (hired by Al Coates).

His father, Jack ,was an integral part of the Caps management team from 1979 until his death in 1996.

No.

If you will accept a suggestion, perhaps be cognizant that NHL teams hire pretty regularly on past and present relationships, including family members who are qualified.

If they’re not qualified or make poor decisions the GM or upper management person who did the hiring puts his job in jeopardy.

Of course they do. It's a small community. But I don't think Keith was there after just a few years of coaching (unsuccessfully) in the WCHL and the Continental/United. And if your brother is in management I think you'd better be the most qualified, not just sort of qualified, or it comes back to bite you.

It's telling to me that the AGM that came with Chia is still there after he was fired. That's not that usual is it?

you mean like every other job / business / industry since the dawn of time?

Weird. It's almost like these are human beings in these positions and that relationships matter.

I would somewhat agree but remember, he is the interim GM. They may want some sense of continuity (hard to believe) as the trade deadline looms.

Regardless of how much time Keith put in in the UHL, I am a fan of his hiring. When you look at the absolute studs he drafted in Phoenix and his work in the 2015 draft I think the Oilers are in good hands.

I know you are being sarcastic but OEL is a legit stud. Not that he wasn't literally the only choice to make.

I was more impressed by Peter Mueller, Tikhinov, Ross, Summers, Gormley, Visentin, Murphy, and Samuelson.

Hit on OEL and Turris and Boedeker. 3 out of 11 first rounders is not bad.

Playing devil's advocate, but Murphy at 20 wasn't a bad pick. He's an every-day NHL defenseman. Mueller also probably could've been better if not for concussions.

There's a CP member who has a webpage he manages where all Flames moves are captured. For some reason the username Halifaxdrunk is jumping out at me, but I could be totally wrong.

He got a great pick in Boston, when he got Pasternak, but, yeah, his record, aside from obvious ones like OEL isn't great.
