Default Flames 3 Canes 2 (OT)

Game Takes:
Flames 3 Canes 2 OT

- not a good effort from the Flames until late
- Backlund and Neal click
- Rittich solid
- point streaks come to an end

Thanks. Suprised that so many in the PGT thread thought Flames outplayed Carolina. Hurricanes came in playing well and not surprised they gave a Flames all they could handle. Flames were chasing a lot of that game.

It’s ironic that Flames best stretch was the final 10 minutes, during which they were out scored.

Thanks

The proposed narrative around the implication of advanced stats falls flat on this night.

Rittich was good but Mrazek was better, and anyone who watched the game should likely agree .

The advanced stats are spot on. The Canes threw way more pucks to the net both of the low, medium and high danger variety.

But when it came down to high danger chances the game was 11-10 for Carolina and much closer.

More zone time for Carolina, Calgary chasing the game but countering with some great chances of their own.

Right, you can’t argue what was counted.

The implication of advanced stats is what I see as off (as usual with Carolina).

Mrazek had a lot of 10 bell saves and Rittich had a comparatively easy night

Agreed. Despite the fact that the Flames played very poorly and the Canes dominated possession, the Flames had by far the better scoring chances.

This game was instructional video on why possession stats don't tell the story. And Mrazek was the only reason the Flames didn't run away with it.

It certainly speaks to all high danger chances aren't created equally.
