Now that big stars are getting it I have to imagine the season is in jeopardy

Yeah they've been in Phase Two for a week...and now you have both Tampa Bay and Matthews with positive tests.

I think this will slow things down now, and puts the plan in jeopardy for sure.

COVID is scary enough for anyone, but it has to be extra scary for professional athletes. So many people who have recovered are suffering from (permanent? we don't know yet) lung scarring and decreased lung capacity. When your career depends on athletic performance, it has to be a scary thought that even if you recover you may never again have the lungs to be at the top of your game.

The real news is that somehow Steve Simmons broke this. Was he camped outside their house? How does this guy get a scoop?

Even if he does fully recover in a month he will miss the entire camp. I hope he pulls through, this is more important than hockey.

Steve Simmons gave him Covid 19 just so he can break the story.

Does the nhl have to try to get the season going to keep tv happy but really they would prefer to call it quits this year, shrug their shoulders and say "we tried but the players kept testing positive"?

Ummm...does he even have any symptoms?

He may have tested positive but that does not mean he is sick at all.

According to that article he still plans on being in Toronto for July 10.

Do the Flames have any players in the south or southwest? Should try to get them up to Canada asap.

Yeah, with everything going on in the world, I wonder if all sports leagues should take a breather until 2021.

Season should have already been cancelled. The risk is just not worth it IMO. But I would bet that the NHL presses on. Short of someone dying, they will go forward with their plans.

Here's a money balance for you:

Sure the NHL is going to lose money if they cancel the season now, but is any company in their right mind willing to insure any of these teams with this sort of risk profile? I can't see how they would without an exorbitant rate. No way regular injury insurance covers this virus and trying to play through it.

The risk profile is extremely high/ relatively uncertain.

Well having symptoms is irrelevant. He'll have to be away from teammates for at least 3 weeks, and if they want to be very careful maybe more.

This is why this playoff plan is silly.

They need to do training camps at the hubs. Problem is these guys are in their home towns doing regular stuff right now hence why they've contracted it.

Once they get into their rink/hotel isolation and everyone is tested they should be okay, but if teams have their training camps elsewhere then players are more likely to test positive in that time, which will be sketchy if it happens leading up to the tournament.

If they don't want this going sideways in a hurry they'll want to get everyone into hockey lockdown 2 weeks prior.
