Thank you Iggy for all the great memories!! Definitely one of my favorite players to play the game and in flames silks. I will never forget the 2004 season from start to finish and including this year has been one of my favorite seasons as a flames fan. I am so glad his #12 will be put up to the rafters and given the proper respect it deserves.
Yeah Baby!!
Edit: Thanks AC for the SJ Game 6 CBC feed, watching it now brings back memories lol

Nice, just saw that they also had game 7 against Vancouver, and game 6 against Detroit as well on that youtube page. What a nostalgia trip, even stuff like seeing the commercials was pretty cool. So many memories flooding back. Was just intending to watch for a few minutes, but I just kept watching lol.
When I was a kid playing hockey here I started to hate the game cause of racism I faced in minor hockey. I was lucky enough to meet Iggy and shared my story with him. If it wasn't for him I would have given up hockey for good. I went on to play and meet a lot of good hockey people, from Major Junior to Europe. I can only imagine how different my life would have been without that talk.
Thanks for everything you did, Iggy. On and off the ice.

Here's my Iggy story: I took my then five year old son to the Flames bowling event right after the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake. My parents had been at the Olympics and brought a team Canada hat back and were lucky enough to get Wayne Gretzky to autograph the hat. My little guy brought that hat to bowling and went up to Jarome to ask him to autograph it as well. Jarome took one look at the hat and said to me "I can't autograph that hat, Wayne Gretzky has signed that hat". The humility and respect that he showed was so different than what you get from almost any other pro athlete. I told Jarome that not only was he my son's favourite player, he also scored two goals in the gold medal game. He got a big sheepish smile on his face and signed the hat...on the very back as far away from Wayne's signature as possible. All class.

AMAZING interview with Conroy on the FAN960 that just finished. Hopefully will be up later today. A must listen.
I listened to it this morning too. It was hilarious, so many funny stories from Conroy about Iggy on and off the ice. The different stages of drinking story was hilarious.
Conroy is such a likeable guy and a great story teller. His interactions with Rhett during the interview was really great too.

You could see even in his first appearance during that playoff series against Chicago in 1996 that Iginla was going to be a special player. So glad this ceremony is getting so much attention. Whatever bad feelings remain between him and the Flames because of his departure in 2013 are sure to be erased on Saturday night.
i just want Gary Bettman to make an appearance and acknowledge to Jarome in person on Saddledome ice that while we can't rewrite history - it was a goal back in 2004.
Flames Fan Fest in 1999/2000, had just moved here from Regina (hence the Pats t-shirt, which Derrick Morris loved), hadn't watched much NHL or Flames hockey but my dad figured this would be a good time. Went and met the entire team, couple players didn't really give us kids the time of the day (cough: Savard) but Iggi asked us about playing hockey, school, our friends and posed for this awesome picture. He was the one of the most friendly people I had ever met. I was hooked. Favorite player, favorite team!
At that same time I got my pedestal jersey signed by Jarome Iginla and continued to wear it through the 2004 playoff run. 17th ave partying every other night for 2+ months took its toll on the jersey (its honestly disgusting). Couldn't wash it during the run for obvious superstition reasons. After we lost (it was in!) it went into the closet never to be worn again. Busted it out the other night as I was considering wearing it Saturday night but its pretty gross LOL.
Think I might frame it beer/party stains and all. Its 2004 run game used!

I love hearing all these stories about iggy. The classiest, greatest player ever! What a hero he was for this team and this city.
I can’t express how much I wish he could have played one more season with Calgary before retiring. My secret hope is that he takes the warm up with the flames on Saturday, looks great, signs a contract when he gets off the ice, skates on a line with gaudreau and monahan, scores the GWG off a patented one-timer, and the dome erupts in the biggest cheer in flames history.
It’s a fantasy I know... but he deserves all that and more.
I would have preferred Iggy over Jagr as well. Still think he would look great on our PP.
So at the time my cousin was the team dentist for the Kamloops Blazers, and when the Flames traded for the rights to Iggy he said to me that we were going to be blown away by "this kid" and that he would be a star in the NHL one day.
