Personally, I like the trance better. It is a better price and the stumpy still seems like it is the regular price.

The trance has Shimano brakes, while the stumpy has tektro. To me the only place the stumpy wins is the larger rear cassette.

X2 for Trance. Way way way less pedal bob with that suspension layout vs spesh.

X3 for the Trance. I had one 6 years ago. I know totally differnt bike vs todays standards but Giant does a great job in their linkage systems to address pedal Bobbing. Ive owned enough Norcos and Specialized that Im not impressed with the pedaling characteristics. The VPN lingages work very nicley down hill but and climb or pedaling and it eats up alot of your pedal stroke.

Specialized and Norco don't try to improve their linkages they just keep adding higher end speced rear shocks .

Does anyone know where I can get a similar bike to this Nashbar SS cyclocross in Calgary/Canada? I'm totally loving commuting with my current cheap SS but it doesn't have any attachments for panniers and/or mud guards so I'm looking at some other options. Generally, I'd like something which can fit some slightly wider tires (possibly studs) for winter and build up a proper commuter with a rear pannier and mud guard attachments. My commute is about 11km each way with pretty minimal hills so SS is working great for me. I'm open to building up a bike but I've never done that before. An added benefit to SS is it's really helping me build up my leg muscles in advance of ACL reconstruction...

I have an All City Nature Boy I'd be willing to sell if you're tall enough for a 58 cm frame.

It will take up to a 38mm tire and has bosses to attach racks and fenders.

Anyone planning to attend the Bike Calgary Gala this Friday?

I'll be there, I hear we are planning the next phase on the war on cars.

Darn, registration ended September 16t...maybe next year...

2 of the guys from GCN did it last year. Looked incredibly difficult.

For time reference:

Simon Richardson placed at 58 with a time of 04:11:40.39
Matt Stephens placed at 68 with a time of 04:19:04.69

The winner was Vincenzo Nibali at 3:19:54.04

I ended up buying a 2018 Giant Trance 2. I rode both the Trance 3 and Trance 2. I found a really good deal; I got the Trance 2 on sale for $200 less than the price of the Trance 3.

Congrats, looks like a great bike. Hopefully the weather gives you a chance to get out on it. Otherwise it’ll be tough just looking at the new toy longingly all winter.

Gotta get my mojo back. My #### weather bike is in pieces, I’ve become a fair weather rider. Hurt my knee a little again in a August and stopped any non commuter riding.

Rolled the winter bike today, still hoping we get a break this month and the road bike can stay out and play for a little longer.
