Well I don't know if anyone is still using the 2G like me. But there are some developers out there that don't want it to die. They are taking the last release for the 2G 3.1.3 and are making a new firmware for it that is like the new iOS 4. Not sure if I'll mess around with it until I get the new iPhone.

I'm not sure what I'll do with my 2G once I get the new one. The screen is cracked so I could probably only sell it for peanuts. I have a larger iPad classic in my car already.

I've decided to wait for the jailbreak. I'm too addicted to my iPhone acting as a MiFi.

I hear ya' Russic...I'm pretty used to a lot of the software I use from Cydia. It will be strange without it...maybe too strange. I can't decide.

This is the longest update ever.

Going on an hour and half. I guess I had too much stuff on my phone. I should have done a quick purge before I updated.

I'm on a 3G for the record.

So now my phone finished the update. Said it needed to reboot, and hasn't rebooted yet. I'm kinda worried.

The actual download was lightning fast for me, completely maxed out my connection. It was after that that it slowed down, basically stuck at the "Backup Up iPhone" progress bar, which moves 1 pixel every so often.

This is just awesome, and the kind of attention to detail that endears Apple to me:

Apple has handled status badges, those little white-on-red numbers attached to the corner of an app's icon that indicate, say, the number of unread messages in Mail or new articles in your RSS reader. If a folder contains one or more apps with a status badge, the folder gains a badge displaying the sum of those badges. In other words, if you've got 12 unread e-mail messages in Mail, 37 new articles in Reeder, and three new notifications in Boxcar, a folder containing those apps will sport a badge displaying 52

Which when they miss something it's even more annoying, like not closing the folder after you launch the app.

Yeah, the download was crazy fast, but this backup is taking a while...

OK...so it's downloaded, backed up seem to confirm the firmware install and now it's just sitting here. If I click the home button, I see the connect to iTunes but nothing it happening. This was after the pop up about device being restored to factory settings. Am I stuck or what to do now?

Hmmm.I had to manually exit out of iTunes and then load it again and now it's restoring. Don't like that...hope all is OK.

Ringtones are completely borked, I can add all my ringtones and I see none of them. I add a few and I see a few.. I add a few more I see less, add a few more I see none, remove a few I see one, remove them all but two I see one, add more I see them all, remove one I see none... it's like completely random.

Strange. My iPhone only has 700meg left on it and I had downloaded and installed 4.0 in 20 minutes flat.

here is a decent article about some of the changes and how to use them.

I have mine downloading now. Also have torrents going, so it's going really slow.

I've looked through the article Roast Beef posted. Some cool new stuff that I didn't know about before.

Highlights for me:
Since I don't have it going yet I'm now sure how some will work though.
The updates spell check, I don't know if I'll like or not. From the article is sounds like we have to use a special step to have the word actually change, I like to type quick text messages, so if I'm going to have to jump through a lot of loops to get my message correct, that will become a pain. We'll see.

Also the character count in a text message is finally here! I didn't know that until today. It's really easy to type out a novel of a text, and then I sometimes realize that I should edit it down because I'm sending it to a "normal" phone, and I remember I used to always hate receiving texts that took up 2 texts.

Searching SMS might be useful at times, we'll see.

Create a real playlist! So stoked about that one.

Folders will be cool as time goes on I'm sure. I already had my pages set up like folders in a sense, and only have 4 pages total. So at the time I don't really care about folders, but as I gather more apps I probably will.

Since I don't have it d/l yet, I don't know about this multitasking. Sounds like it may become more of a hassle having to exit out of each app now. I like just pressing the home screen and being done. I'm also one of the people that doesn't have many apps that will fully or actually utilize multitasking.
I'm thinking, or hoping we will be able to select which apps stay open and which will close by just pressing home button.
Also there is the thing about the extra step to get to my ipod controls now. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but won't like it for a long time until I do.

Edit just read another article: CNet review in pictures
I think I'm going to like location services update. I always hated it when an app continuously asks to use it and I have to click no every time i open it.

Agreed. It makes everything so clean and tidy. I hated having pages of applications. I believe the maximum is 12/folder, but I'll live with it
