Hey fellas, I'll update the thread when I get back from vacation on Monday, good to see some more interest.
Hopefully we all get to have some practice on the demo sooner rather than later.

Hey guys, demo is out in europe, and should be on the PSN in North America later today. Hopefully this helps drum up a little more interest.
I'm pretty excited.

I've read the impressions of a couple people who are playing it now and it seems like they're pretty excited. You can play as either zetterberg or crosby in the "be a pro" mode, or you can just do a regular game. Train ride home tonight is going to be so unbelievably slow ...

Yeah, I just played a Be A Pro game as Zetterberg, and let me tell you, it takes a lot of getting used to.
I kept wanting to a) switch players and b) not pass the puck.
Clearly it comes with practice.
As for the game, it looks even crisper than last year...graphically, 2k9 can't hold a candle to it.
I also saw a few new save and hit animations to go with what look like some pretty useful new additions (dumping the puck and driving wide protecting the puck).
I can't wait for the real thing now.

Practice hard, Team CP PS3! We gotta be ready to challenge for that championship when the game comes out!

Do most people have a headset that works with their PS3? Verbal communication will be important for team play.

I'm pretty sure that being a goalie is one of the positions in Be A Pro mode as well as a slot on the EA League teams. Yeah, I imagine it could/will be very boring to whomever takes the bullet on that one, which is why there's only 2 people in the list that are even considering maybe going goalie.
'Course you could always just tell your team to take a break and get a very frantic few minutes with pucks raining down on you .

I don't know man, I think being a goalie would be so stressful that it wouldn't get too boring. I know when I'm going to be freaking out the whole time, having terrible flashbacks to playing goal when I was 7.
That will be a position where communication is going to be key. Dmen and goalies will have to be talking almost all the time when the puck is in the zone. Sweet jumping jesus this game is going to rule.
edit: and while this team will be for fun, we should almost make having a mic mandatory. Just my 2 cents.

Fluctuating between boredom and massive stress then? Sounds like a position for a masochist.
...Maybe I'll give it a whirl.

Yeah I think mic's will be pretty beneficial in this game.
It's actually not ridiculously expensive to buy them anymore either.
I wish you could give goalie a try in the demo.

Memory Express has good deals on USB headsets that should work with the PS3.

I played the demo, and my impression so far is really positive. I think the new tutorials are a great way to get a feel for the game. Also, I think the bodychecking is really improved- it just feels right.
One thing I don't like is the defensive skill stick- it's kinda awkward how the player always crouches over when you use it (as if to block a pass).
The Be a Player mode is a lot of fun! I thought the arrow might be distractiung, but it works well (I earned an A+ on positioning). The camera angle also is nice, but it gets distracting when you skate behind the opposing team's net (spinning around), or when your player gets a quick touch of the puck (It zooms in).
That zooming effect is really cool, though. The game feels really polished, and it runs much smoother than NHL 08! I can't wait to play the game online with you guys! But man, it is gonna be hard to avoid offsides!

Agree with most of what Kipper is King had to say. One thing is certain ... this eashl season is going to be very very fun. Be a pro on it's own is highly entertaining, and throwing real people in there is going to be overwhelmingly awesome. Can't wait to play it with everybody!

Did anyone get the bug where the goalie makes a save, then tries to sweep the puck towards himself to cover it up and he knocks it into his own net? Man. I hope that didn't make it into the final game!

Producer David Littman posted a blog saying they know about the problem and it's already fixed for the release. That said, I haven't seen it yet. I've definitely played this demo more than any other I've downloaded...I'm totally psyched for this game.
