There's an app that converts your air quality and average exposure to cigarettes smoked....

https://www.ominecaexpress.com/news/...rettes-smoked/

Quote:
People living near Fort Saint James in the north-central area of B.C. will smoke 28 cigarettes Wednesday – even non-smokers.
That’s according to the app Sh**t! I Smoke, designed to convert air quality around the world to cigarette smoking.
Only 3.4 in Calgary today.

this is pretty funny. Very scientific study. What consists of a "smoky" hour? Looks like some dude just whipped this up in Excel on his laptop or something.

This is a good example because the false equivalency of "running on pavement being bad on joints" is the same as "continuing to exercise in poor quality air for a few days is worse than not exercising".

Running, even on pavement, is protective of joints. If you have a knee injury that is bothered by it, then you should not run as it will be bad for your knee short and long term.

Running, even in polluted air, is generally still protective of respiratory disease. If you have a respiratory condition and run in polluted air, it will be bad for your lungs short term and long term.

Are you seriously comparing a group of healthy, fit people running in a smokey environment for a few days to someone who smoked two packs a day for most of their adult life?

I'm already very well protected from respiratory disease because of cardiovascular fitness and other healthy behaviors. The effect of smoke outside is nill.

Tell me about your health. Are you overweight? Have you ever smoked weed or cigarettes? What is your diet like? I bet I can find 10 things that are far more riskier to your behavior than running in smoke AND they are things you do FAR more often.

Major Hurricane Lane is forecast to close in on Hawaii and threaten lives and property on the islands due to pounding surf, flash flooding, mudslides and strong winds.

There is the possibility of Lane making a direct hit on one or more of the islands late this week and into this weekend. The ultimate severity of impacts will depend on the exact track and strength of Lane.

Hawaii Gov. David Ige has signed an emergency proclamation in advance of the hurricane.

Even in lieu of a direct hit, "Lane has the potential of bringing the state of Hawaii serious and perhaps record damage," according to AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski
Ya what timing, my family and I are supposed to fly out to Oahu on the 2nd. Right now it looks like a cat3/cat4 will hit. Even though are plans are a week later, I doubt the islands will be in any shape to go to....

I also feel sorry for those there, although they are a US state, resources coming in will be limited.( Plus Trump being Trump will forget them like he did Puerto Rico. )

It looks like it is veering a bit more west and will be a cat 1 when it passes Oahu. I've been through a Cat 1 (Sandy in Jamaica) and it was bad, but not all that destructive. Your vacation will probably be mostly normal. We get Cat 1 strength wind in Calgary on rare ocasions.

Doesn’t look like it’s going to affect Oahu much at all.

Really cause all models and reports have them in the hurricane, hence the hurricane warning. There are few models predicting a miss but there are multiple models predicting going right beside the island. The main factor is the wind speed and flash flooding. There’s also a few models predicting landfall. And that would suck.

That's what I'm seeing too. It's definitely slowing, but the path hasn't improved from what I've read.

Forget about the Hurricane - insane how much smoke rolled in while I was out at lunch. Could see across most of the city this morning, now I can hardly see the beltline from downtown. Back to that ominous orange brown glow to life...
