Something like that, sure. I'll annotate the image with actual highs and rain. This page below has a nice 2 week history of temps. Rain will be a bit subjective, but for instance, this forecast looks like it is saying rain today. Unless we get more than a quick shower, I'd call that a miss. And it's already 15.

WMI radar is back online for the season. This pleases me more than it should.

Anyone recall this?

The start of summer was barely a month away, but snow covered much of Calgary and southern Alberta 33 years ago today.

It was, according to CBC reporter David Kyle, the worst such spring storm to hit the province in five years, when it arrived on May 14, 1986.

The storm toppled power lines, closed schools and generally made a mess of the highways.

I remember watching the Flames play on a six inch portable TV in our holiday trailer because there was no power in the house.

I remember that not only for the snow, but also for the fact that we had a European student staying with us as part of band tour or something, as well as we were trialing a satellite TV system. So no school, snow drifts everywhere to play in, student who's mind was blown by the weather, and we didn't have to suffer through peasant vision while being stuck at home.

Our first 5 day summary....totally nailed the first day, so well done there. Pretty close on Sunday as well. Monday was a major bust, with no rain falling, and temps off by 9 degrees. Tuesday wasn't to bad, but the high was missed by over 4 degrees.

Wednesday I had trouble with. Technically the high was within 3 degrees, but the low was over that. We also had overnight showers, where they had a 20% chance....so I've left it neutral but could be convinced to change it to a small hit.

The next few days look pretty bad for this forecast, as they look to have totally missed this system coming through. Even if the temps kinda work out, I think they will be misses given the rain and lack of sun.

Anyway, I'm open to corrections here, but I think I've got it mostly right.

In days 3-5 I would say the forecast was reasonably accurate but a day late. So the Tuesday - Thursday forecast matches the Monday - Wednesday actuals. How this type of in accuracy in time is perceived is up to the person using the forecast.

The other thing to note is that Thursday/Friday did have a 60/40 probability of precipitation so at the end of the two weeks we almost need to add up the odds for precipitation and then check to see if the % playout. While there was no rain on Monday there was a 20% chance of no rain. So is that an incorrect forecast or was an overcast day that didn’t happen to rain a predicted outcome of that 80% forecast.

Maybe what I’m trying to say is the issue with the forecast itself or to we try to ascribe more certainty to the forecast then it intends for us to take. I suspect from here on out there is no difference in accuracy of this forecast than one generated randomly based on historical data.

Sorry, I don't get your first statement. We didn't have a day of rain, which looking at their pictures, that's what Monday was supposed to be. I think it was mostly sunny. So you say it is just shifted, but then you are just eliminating a day from their forecast. The other thing is it is only 3 days into the forecast, so I can't help but call it a big miss. If that happened a week in, well OK, I could see that argument.

I think they way to evaluate is if you were just to look at the forecast, you want a general idea what the day is like. So if you see a picture of rain, 80% chance, and 10 degrees, you expect a cool wet day. If you see a stretch form Wed to Sat with decreasing temps, but mid-low precip numbers, you can expect at least sunny days with showers and cooling temps for a few days.

I'm not sure you look a week into the forecast and say, ok, that day is hot and sunny, and the rest around it are rain, so I'll plan my weekend accordingly. So after 5 days(which I would hope to all be pretty accurate) I'd look more at trends than exacts, but it should still be within a day or so.

So far all the rain WN predicted this week hasn't really happened..what was it supposed to be, 5mm yesterday evening alone? Got less than 1mm. I'm having a hard time believing we're going to get the 5-10mm WN is saying for tomorrow..will prob be another 1mm or less.

I hate when the weather feels all cold and wet like this but still barely any rain, what's the point? Either be cold & rainy or don't.

I remember May Long 01 or 02.. camping outside of Bragg Creek. Going to bed in shorts and a t-shirt and waking up when my tent caved in with a foot of snow.

There was another fire west of Prince George last week. Regional district of Bulkley-Nechako - the Lejac fire, near Fraser Lake. They evacuated the area, but allowed residents back in on Tuesday, with about 70% containment, I think the news said.
