Default Preseason discussion

What are you guys/gals hoping to see in preseason this year?

What are you hoping to see with regards to coaching strategies/line ups/PTO's/young players?

I know me and a few others are hoping the flames aren't screwing around with lineups and PTOs in the last 2 preseason games, instead actually cementing the lineup earlier than usual and being really ready for game 1.

I guess in the experimentation times I would like to see Gillies/Rittich get a shot maybe to surprise and I'm liking the Janko/Foo combo, so I'd like to see a bit of that in the preseason.

I wouldn't mind seeing them try Tkachuk up with line 1 a bit as well as Janko with Backlund and Frolik as well. I guess I wouldn't mind seeing the 1-3-1 practice on PP since that seems like the way we're going, except use Hamilton a lot as the 1..

Love to see a Tkachuk-Bennett-Brouwer line. Not really sure where I wanna see Jankowski, probably the toughest question in preseason is how to fit him in. I guess we could try a Tkachuk-Jankowski-Brouwer line. Wouldn't mind seeing Frolik-Backlund-Foo

Would like to see what Foo looks like with Gaudreau and Monahan

Stylistically I think he'd fit better with Backlund/Frolik. Plus Backlund/Frolik have a history of helping young players excel. I guess I wouldn't mind him with Bennett or Jankowski either. I think putting him with Gaudreau-Monahan is too much pressure. He's likely to defer too much to them and not really play his game.

Still think Gaudreau needs a skilled power forward opposite him. IMO the only guys they should try up there are Ferland and Tkachuk.

I'm hoping to see the Flames' system locked down with all players game ready for the season opener, and no distractions. This includes tending with Smith.

Last year's start was abysmal.

Jankowski, Lazar and Kylington solidifying the Flames youth movement on the big club full time this year.

Foo is really good with give and gos. He also has a great shot, is smart, and has wheels. He also has a bit of grit, and will go to the net.

I think he his style blends very well with the top line

1 thing I want to see is a couple of games with the full roster or close to it. Could be wrong, but I think one of the reasons we struggle out of the gate the last few seasons was that we didn't put the full roster until the very last moment or not at all in the pre-season to develop that chemistry and get a better feel for the players.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Jankowski - Backlund - Frolik
Tkachuk - Bennett - Versteeg
Brouwer - Stajan - Lazar
Hathaway, Foo

Giordano - Hamilton
Brodie - Hamonic
Kulak - Stone
Wotherspoon

Smith
Lack

It honestly is pretty tough to see how we fit Jagr in.

I'd like to see too many kids making their case to not get cut. Jankowski, foo, shinkaruk, Poirier, klimchuk, Andersson, kylington, wotherspoon, and a surprise goalie.

Jankowski and Foo should be on this team - I want Jankowski centering the 2nd PK unit. Foo's edgework still looks rough but he can play.

Valimaki won't make the team this year, but he could make Stone expendable as early as next season. That's going to go down as one of Treliving's most under rated selections.

Which veteran gets moved/sent down because a kid stole his job.

Not nice to see, but it's the business.

I would think the top 2 lines are set...

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk- Backlund - Frolik

Interesting part of the camp is who will play on the 3rd line and who is the #6 and #7 dman

I wouldn't mind seeing Tkachuk get paired with Bennett.

I think Lazar projects as a player that might mesh well with Backs and Frolik.

Gaudreau - Mono - Ferly
Tkachuk - Bennett - Versteeg
Frolik - Backs - Lazar
Stajan - Janko - Brouwer

Versteeg/Tkachuk and Lazar/Frolik can switch wings I believe.

Bartowski is losing his job imo.

Stajan won't get sent down but I can see him moved to wing / press box a lot this year.
