Outside of showing that he is in shape, which is more likely is, I think teams know exactly what they are getting. Even if not invited to a camp from the start, either an injury early in camp, or some the shine and lustre of a supposed prospect that was assumed to make the next step, comes off really quick, and Iginla is getting a call and is plugged in right away.
Look at Versteeg last year, he got one practice in as a Flame before opening night.
And as someone else mentioned in the Jagr thread, future HOF’ers aren’t going to get offered PTO’s.

Well, for what it's worth, his mother told me this much, when Iginla was playing for Boston. My seat was right next to hers for Iggy's first game in Calgary playing for Boston. She said that he was very happy in Boston and that his entire family wanted to stay in Boston until he retires. Obviously, Boston had other plans. Things don't always work for hockey players the way they want them to work out.

Boston is a petty nice city. Gets a bit too much snow for my tastes but they have some beautiful old neighborhoods, museums, and historic buildings.

I'd still like to see Iggy come back. It's the only reason I voted "no" in the Jagr to Calgary thread.

Which would make sense why he built a house there, but I am curious to see what happens over the next 2 weeks for him then.

Aren't we all?
P.S. To be clear, I've said this before, I am 100% in favour of having Iginla sign in Calgary, play full season and retire here to close the book on his great career.

Just heard an interview with Gio on Fan 960 this morning where Boomer directly asked Gio if he'd want Iginla back. Gio hesitates for a bit before eventually saying yes. Boomer and warrener jumped on him immediately to shut up and not cause any controversy. Too late!

He just didn't want to generate buzz and controversy for the team. I didn't read any negativity in his words. In fact, he was quite complementary of Iggy - more than he needed to be.
No controversy at all from his comments, IMO.

Aaaaand the rollercoaster shifts back and forth from Jagr to Iggy. At this point I feel like neither will happen, but I seriously hope we land at least one of them.

Based on the needs of the team and potential ice time I still think Iggy fits the mold of what we are missing.

That seemed like the opposite of a vote of confidence by Gio... big hesitation and an unconvincing yeah. Irrelevant anyway, poor Gio probably just didn't want to offend anyone.

I mean I understand the hesitance from Gio. I wager he covets that bundle of pencils. What if Iggy wants em back!

Training camps are about to open, and still no contract offers? That doesn't bode well. Seems teams may wait to see if their youngsters look ready, or if injuries bite in camp, before considering extending a contract. Iginla shouldn't be that particular if he wants to play this year. Get a contract somewhere, play his ass off, and hope he catches the eye of a team looking for depth in the post-season.
