More Dzingel talk

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
It’s Dzingel day in Ottawa. Senators will get and should get quality return. Hard to say what it is...ranging for multiple picks to a top prospect. Boston and CBJ among the suitors.

Yeah but Brodie is just a product of Mark Giordano.

Jake Muzzin never played with Drew Doughty, except that time they have been partners for virtually his whole career.

One of these days Dreger is going to get burned on his copy and paste job text from one of these player agents.

I don't think that's what he's arguing though. I think the point is the 'price' changes at different times of the year.

I noted it earlier in this thread as well.

This may be useful to understand the differences:

In Priceless, the bestselling author William Poundstone reveals the hidden psychology of value. In psychological experiments, people are unable to estimate "fair" prices accurately and are strongly influenced by the unconscious, irrational, and politically incorrect. It hasn't taken long for marketers to apply these findings. "Price consultants" advise retailers on how to convince consumers to pay more for less, and negotiation coaches offer similar advice for businesspeople cutting deals. The new psychology of price dictates the design of price tags, menus, rebates, "sale" ads, cell phone plans, supermarket aisles, real estate offers, wage packages, tort demands, and corporate buyouts. Prices are the most pervasive hidden persuaders of all. Rooted in the emerging field of behavioral decision theory, Priceless should prove indispensable to anyone who negotiates.

They can be worth more. Calgary's might be worth way less at the draft because they finish so well.

Seriously, it depends on where you finish and who the players are. The value of Edmonton's pick in the McDavid year went up on lottery/draft day versus the previous trade deadline.

Not a deadline deal, but the year-away pick Calgary traded for Hamonic went way up in value after the trade, when Calgary performed so badly.

Players are obviously worth more in the middle of a season when they are needed the most, and draft picks are never more valuable than on draft day

But you can't really worry about that. Asset management and taking advantage of the seasonal market fluctuations is an important strategy, especially for building teams, but it shouldn't be a factor for a team trying to take advantage of their window (IMO).

Windows can be really short these days with all the parity.

Noah Dobson looks incredible. Probably gonna end up the 2nd best D in that draft after Dahlin.

Gio is having his best season ever.... well at least since the year he was injured and missed the playoffs.

He is and was paired with Brodie on both occasions. Without Brodie Gio was good but not elite.

Let's get rid of Brodie and let Gio carry around Andersson. That might work???

I wonder what's more valuable to the flames, a guy with term at a decent price or a guy without term?

Morally, Treliving wants guys with term. But for some guys with no term, like a Zuccarello, you have to think he may break his morality to get an impactful peice when the team is running hot this season, and then not have to worry about the longer term implications of bringing a guy in and trying to fit him in to the room, roster or cap, past June (of course, the assets you need to get the player have to be thought of longer term).

Treliving looks for value contracts, or guys he feels he can sign for one. Even Neal - if he score some like he did historically, that's a good contract.

Default 2018/2019 Trade Speculation and Rumors

I’d love them to pick up Stone and find a way to sign him, but then expansion is going to be tough - 5 core F not even counting Backlund so can only protect 3 D. They’re going to lose their 4th best D unless they make a deal.

Of course if they don’t sign Stone or some other core piece then they’re still going to lose their 3rd or 5th best D or someone like Backlund or Bennett so maybe it doesn’t make that much difference.

2 full seasons and 3 off-seasons to worry about and deal with that. Not an issue to fret over when thinking about our current roster. Too many good players? Pretty great problem to have.

Maybe we are allowed to discuss Brodie after all??
