Really, really good IPA.
I think that was me. Hope the trip to the pub was worthwhile. I find their beer is always beer on tap than from the bottle anyway. How was the trip overall?

Ya BlackEleven it was you, I wanted to say BlackArcher for some reason but knew I was wrong. Trip was great, I got to hit up L'Amere Boire, they had I think 25 beer on tap including an American IPA and a double IPA, both were great. The staff hated us except the one bartender (she had spent a summer in Sask learning English) so my buddies didn't want to stay very long. I eventually won over one of the non english speaking bartenders and he showed me their book of all the beer, was really cool to look at.

We left there and went to Dieu du Ciel and I was expecting it to be even worse, but they were actually very very nice and described all the beer to me. It was then I realised that we had these in Saskatoon at our speciality store, but as you said in a pint instead of a bottle is always so much better.

During the day (since it was a lot closer to where we were staying) we hit up Les 3 Brasseaurs (their red was nothing special but the poutine was great) and Brutopia (had a great IPA and he was mixing their brown and honey lagers for us to make Sleemens look like absolute crap).

Overall the trip was great, French girls are really nice, and aggressive :P I think the coolest place we were (including Entourage, 1234, some posh place right across from our hotel on Piel and all those pubs) was by far Distillery. The drinks were really cool and it had a great atmosphere in a small venue that allowed us to thrive Sunday night

The entire town thought we were Military in our Top Gun costumes that we ended up wearing out all three nights instead of just one.. and the American flags on our shoulders were probably why we got the cold shoulder in the french district. Or maybe it was just because we spoke English.

Thanks again for the tips, I never would have found those places without your help.

Sounds like you had a good time. That's good to hear. Yeah, I think the cold shoulder may have been due to the American military think more than anything. Neither the United States nor the military are held in high regard here, especially among francophones. I often speak English in those same bars with English-speaking friends, and haven't ever had any trouble.

Yeah, I like Distillery too. Those big mason jars full of booze, get you drunk fast The small venue atmosphere is very typical in Montreal, there are a lot of places but most of them are small.

I actually really like Rickard's Red. I know it's hardly an exquisite beer, but I like it, especially with dinner.

I've heard I need to try Beau's beer in this area. Not sure if any of you have ever tried it.

Anyone know where you can find Red Racer IPA in Calgary?

The liquor store by me only sells 1 type of beer from select microbrews.

Hop Head but no other Tree brews
Bailout Bitter but no other Howe Sound
Organic Lager but no other Mill St.
No Dieu du Ciel
No Charlevoix

Frustrating. Gotta find a new place.

Found Red Racer IPA at Willow Park. That's a lot of hops! It may be a little to hoppy for me though. I will try again maybe with some really flavourful food. It seemed to be a little easier to drink the warmer it got though.

Also picked up Charlevoix's Dominus Vobiscum Triple, Dominus Vobiscum Brut and Howe Sounds Father John's Winter Ale for Christmas. I love the Howe Sound bottles.

Tried Guinness for the first time the other night, hated it. On a related note, it sounded like something was rattling around in the can?

Ridin' Dirty honestly tastes like roast beef mixed with nail polish.

I look forward to this every year! Awesome beer. I'm glad I found a liquor store nearby that carries them here in Calgary.

If you are going to drink Big Bear you might as well hit up the classics.
