Joey Votto has reached the milestones of 2,000 hits tonight; joining only Larry Walker in that category for Canadians.Should pass Larry Walker sometime next season for most hits by a Canadian.
He also has reached the milestone of 300 HR’s and 1,000 RBI’s this season. He might be a Hall of Famer?

Votto in Hall of Fame for baseball doesn't come to mind to be honest. Was he ever an elite player in the league at any point in his career? Further to that was he an elite player for all of his career? The hits say he was consistent, but he doesn't come to mind at any point as being the best guy in his position. If it was hockey, surely, but for the baseball HOF the bar is very high.

Votto won an MVP. That's pretty elite
He's also 157th in all time WAR and with a couple more strong seasons could end up with 70+ career WAR which would put him really close to the top 100 all time.
That's not elite?

He's absolutely in the conversation. His baseball-reference page is sexy. MVP, GG, 6 All-stars, Top 10 MVP voting in 6 seasons. Career .303/.416/.573/.937(!) slash line. If he can finish strong over the next 3 seasons and get the old school HR and RBI totals up a bit I'd think he'd be a strong contender. Especially because there's not a lot of HoF contenders coming down the pipes. Miggy Cabs, Pujols, and Verlander will retire a year or two before him and be first ballot. After that it's pretty thin with Trout still playing for a decade.

70 WAR is such a great benchmark for HoF. There's only a handful of guys above 70 who are not in the Hall. And they're all of the Steroid and betting scandals. So if Votto can get there I'd think he's a lock.

Yes, Votto has been consistently elite and has always been criminally underrated and overlooked.

Thanks for the info. I'm not married to the idea that he's not a HOFer, but the 70 WAR is super impressive. I just never thought of him as the best player in his position at any point in his career, but that's totally subjective. I won't hold not winning a championship against him as that's more a sum of it's parts issue attributed to the sport.

Freddie Freeman is the first player in Braves history to hit for the cycle twice. That's insane if you ask me looking at some of the past Braves great. Then again maybe not knowing how hard that is to do.
And Alex Anthopoulos and cheap ass Liberty Media are complete dolts if he ain't back in a Braves uniform next year.

Kind of funny to see the Mets falling on their faces after leading the division all year. Suddenly they're in 3rd place and miles behind in the wild card race. Braves hung around all season and are just getting going at the right time.

Lol The Braves are now 7 games ahead of the Mets.
The same Mets who traded their first round pick from last year for Javy Baez and Trevor Williams at the deadline.

Mets are gonna Met.
Cohen has more money than all the other owners combined it seems. But that doesn't make him any less of a moron. His twitter account is hilarious and his little pep talks to the team even more so.
Cohen, Stroman, and Alonso deserve each other. And their failure is hilarious.

That swing by Javy Baez tonight has to be up there with one of the worst of the season. It was brutal. Lol

How is that not blocking the plate? Why even have the rule?
Forget the replay center is in New York. And opposing team is NYY....

The catcher is in direct act of receiving the ball. By rule, it's not blocking the plate. Plays similar to this happy daily. If you watch the reply closely only the catcher's left knee is on the baseline. It's a clear path to the plate for the runner.

Lol @ San Diego. Use up all your players so you have a pitcher batting in the bottom of the 11th.

As frustrating as this month has been for Jays fans I can't imagine what it's like to be a Padre's fan. Their team is in an absolute freefall and I can't see it getting better anytime soon as they have one of the toughest schedules down the stretch. Talk about disappointment for all the money and assets they've been throwing around.

NL West is a pretty bad ass division. Same as the AL East.

For everyone thinking Vladdy is struggling, Tatis Jr is hitting .071 in his last 7 games.

I...I think the Yankees may never lose again. Not even just this season...but my lifetime.
Are they the best team in baseball?
