I thought season 3 was quite solid and a big improvement over S2. I’m looking forward to the new one.

Trailer doesn't do much for me, but they really returned to form in Season 3.

Does look like they are using a formula: occult symbolism, diametric partnership, dreary landscape, light vs. dark, and so on.

Interesting. I love season one, and as others have said season two wasn’t that great so I never actually watched season three may have to go and check it out.

I didn’t hate S2, but S1 was a tough one to follow. They may have been better off not associating them. It was weird to see Vince Vaughn in a role like that, where usually he’s kind of the chill dude.

Loved Season 1, was pretty meh on Season 2, and have yet to watch Season 3. I actually dug the Blu-ray set out of the cabinet the other day.

I realized that I somehow purchased 2 copies of Season 3. Must have been a good sale. Does anyone want to buy an unopened box set of Season 3?

Make me an offer!

I'll watch this one for sure. True Detective: Alaska. And it has Jody Foster? Sold sold sold. Now to re watch the 1st 3 seasons.

Foster adds some credibility as I doubt she takes this role if the script isn't good.

First episode was great. Not super enthused about the supernatural angle, but I am guessing it turns out to be a red herring.

There is some serious animosity between all of the cops, which I assume will be uncovered. Some really bummed out characters this season, which definitely makes sense for the setting.

Speculation-

Spoiler!

I liked that the one DVD case you could clearly see on the shelf was The Thing.

I'm sold. I like the supernatural tint, but I agree it won't end up being anything.

Uh, wasn’t that basically said in the episode? Hank and Peter are definitely father and son and I thought Liz was his mom.

No, I don't think so. Father-son yes, but the rest is speculation. They certainly have a a ex-wife/ex-husband tension though. In looking at a couple different review articles though, I have seen a bunch of suggestions/incorrect observations thrown around. One is that Hank/Peter's relationship is strained since the death of Peter's mother. The other is that Liz's husband/son were killed in a drunk driving accident (I think the son being killed was fairly well established?).

Just re-upped my crave after a few years off. I have only seen season 1, from what I gather I can miss season 2 but season 3 was good? Want to get caught up so I can binge this one.

2 was a big departure from 1, but I think it was still worth watching. 3 was decent, it had a similar vibe to 1.

I really don't know about this.. the female cop (jodi foster) seems like the usual trope of a 'rough around the edges' cop that ends up becoming a hero. Meh? Not sure yet!

I enjoyed it. Had a slight S1 Twin Peaks flavor to it.
I do find that a lot of these shows on premium streaming services could use a tighter edit. Overall I hate the restraints of network television, however, that show didn't need to be an hour. Could have and should have been 40-50 minutes. A lot of fat that could have been cut.
