Acadian Maple I think it was? Yup this place - http://www.acadianmaple.com/ . The coffee I think is this one, but haven't tried it in a bit: http://www.acadianmaple.com/products...aple-340g-12oz
Mahone Bay is great; very picturesque place to enjoy a leisurely walk around. Wolfville (Acadia University) is also not bad.
As for pubs, is Maxwell Plum's still around? I loved that place and their little 6-taste tubs of beer testing, and that gigantic keep the beer cold contraption thing.
For food, Jane's on the Common was pretty good, although expensive.

The Plum is still there, however Ido t think Jane's is anymore but don't quote me on that.
Also the best part of Halifax is leaving to head to Cape Breton

I would absolutely take the short drive to Lunenburg. It is very close to Peggy's Cove if you are planning to do that.
The waterfront at Lunenburg and the colorful buildings are outstanding.
And if you do get to Lunenburg, you must stop and have the Acadian Seafood Stew at "The Grand Banker". I don't think I have had a better chowder.
And if you get that far, I would take the short 6 to 10 minute drive to Blue Rocks. It is a very quaint fishing village and the scenery there presents itself for great pictures.

Also, remember to bring good shoes. We have lots of hills.
And don't buy anything too expensive when you're here. The 15% tax is a killer.

Agreed! I've never been a huge fan of Halifax myself. I am heading to Cape Breton to visit some relatives in a couple weeks and cannot wait. Easily one of my favorite places in the world.
I've always enjoyed just wandering around the harbour.

I was there a few weeks ago, the place is amazing!
Definitely would recommend hitting up the lower deck one of the nights, its a great pub with lots of local bands and great beers.
I had lobster at Murphys on the ocean. The prices were reasonable (about a pound for $30 bucks plus salad and fries).
Enjoy your trip!

Not to hijack the thread but that still doesn't get old for me. They're currently working on extending the boardwalk to the marine terminal. And now that Wentworth Park is redone the harbour front walk is simply awesome, IMO.
Now back to Halifax,
Lower Deck, Old Triangle, Ale House are great places to drink. Ale House is an awesome combination of maritime pub/dance club (would only ever work out here).
Oh the Hydrostone is a neat little area as well.
Halifax has lots of hidden gems. You can just wonder and enjoy.

I found just driving places like to Peggy's cove fun in itself. Roads are twisty and up n down. Definitely weird if your a flatlander like me who can drive 20 miles or more in a perfectly straight line.

Heh. My dad refers to the road between Tantallon and Boutillier's Point as "The Snake Turn". If you think the twisty roads are fun in a car, try it on a motorbike.
For the farmers market, I still prefer the old one in the brewery rather than the new one. But the old "historic market" (and oldest farmers market In North America) is only open on Saturdays for 7am to 2pm. Buy yourself a cinnamon bun from Mary's Bread Basket. Your tongue will love you... Your thighs not so much.
In Halifax harbour you can go on a tall ship ride. Or you can go to Point Pleasant Park.
Yeah, whomever mentioned the good shoes.... They are right. I didn't notice just how hilly it was until I did my marathon. Some of those hills are a killer.

Have the trees grown back? When I grew up there the place was amazing, but I seem to recall a large storm some years back that flattened a tonne of trees.

Hurricane Juan.

It's pretty bare. I work nearby though and it's still a great place to walk at lunch or grab an ice cream and relax on a bench.

It is starting to grow back, but it will take decades to recover. The park took the brunt of the hurricane and Nova Scotia trees just are not built to withstand that kind of force.
And if you are into that kind of thing, they have Shakespeare by the Sea in the park every evening. 7pm tonight is Much Ado About Nothing and Friday they have Hamlet.

Jane's on the common closed 3-4 months ago.
Don't bother with Murphy's, as it's a bit of a tourist trap. Try salty's instead.
The split crow is lots of fun in terms of pubs.
If you're going to be around in the next few weeks, they're showing Steven Spielberg movies on a big screen down on the waterfront near pier 21 every Friday night in August .

Yeah you can usually find a cottage/cabin to rent pretty near the ocean. We rented one in NB a few years back - can't remember the price but it was very affordable.
Air fare is pricey but I love it down there.

Hell yeah, and some of them offer breathtaking views. We rented one up in Ingonish one year, and it was kind of up a cliff overlooking the Atlantic. There's nothing like it anywhere else in Canada, imo.
The coolest part of going to Ingonish though, is renting a car and driving the road that takes you up there. Due to the extreme cliffs on the ocean, they built the road so it keeps you ocean side, but kind of waves up and down. So one minute your down low close to the ocean, the next minute your way up with a breathtaking view. The pictures don't do it justice, when you're driving it in person, it's an amazing drive.
