LOL!
This game has everything.
The token Spurs dive in the box. Then on a separate incident a penalty given after review which shows he was fouled outside the box, penalty scored...then reviewed. Song booked for being trying to 'trick' the referee and now an equaliser!

I absolutely love that Sons penalty didn't count. About time they punish that BS.

That penalty shouldn't have been given in the first place. But this VAR is just painful. I don't mean that because Spurs have scored 3 and yet its 1-1. I mean because its a joke. The ref making these calls with the assistance of VAR, and not even going to have a look at the replay. It's just crazy.

VAR can't work when it's the same inept referees making the decisions. Refereeing has been a joke in this league for many years now, and yeah, sadly VAR won't change anything here. Those refs are abysmal, with or without video help. Who knows, maybe they are even worse with video help ...

I think I would prefer inept referring without all the stops and starts though. Like a goal is scored and then you have to wait and see if it's actually going to count...that's just ridiculous. I get it if there is a legitimate question about something obvious. But if goals are disallowed like the first one then what isn't a penalty? Scores should be like 9-8 going forward if you call every little niggly thing. It's terrible.

in all seriousness though, they are making a right mess out of it for sure. The disallowed goal was a joke decision.

yeah and the fact that this is the kind of thing we've seen hockey just makes me able to see how terrible it will be. "He's 3mm offside, so we should challenge that and protect the integrity of the game". It's just dumb, and regardless of whether your team wins as a result, it isn't a path we should be going down.
All that being said, I have no idea what this ref is doing today. I don't think that Son should have had a penalty to take...but then why was it not retaken? Why didn't the first goal count? Its looking like the ref is going to make sure that things are evened out between these two sides, and that isn't right.

oh, that was actually refereed correctly. The rules say that if the pen taker stops his run completely to deceive the goalie, then a free-kick is given for the opposition. I think they've changed that a couple of years ago, before that it would have been retaken.

The penalty wasn't retaken because the rules state it shouldn't be. The ref got that and the yellow card right.
The first goal didn't count because of your own oft defended Alli rule. There was contact, the Rochdale defender went down. The ref bought it. Simple as that. No need for whining when it goes against you.

6-1 ... well, that's one way to ruin a perfectly fine cup upset.

Right, but not if there are players in the box? Like if the others are in the box, it should be retaken?
(Not that it matters at this point, I just want to know if that's the case)

yeah, it should be retaken when players are in the box. Refs are way too lenient in that regard though, they barely ever have a pen retaken because of it.
In this instance though, the players were only in the box because Son stopped his run. They ran in when they anticipated the shot, yet Son had deceived them all - good decision by the ref for a change.

Well I agree that it should have a stop put to it. At the same time I see it happen fairly regularly and never see it called. And definitely never seen a card for it.

Emirates are looking pretty barren. Just the weather, or fans making a statement?

That run by Sane wasn't boring. Can't wait to see him in that Germany team.

I too rarely tend to get bored watching Arsenal lose, but I dont have to pay for it.
