I am actually looking forward to Christmas this year more than usual. I finally developed an affinity for wine this year and my parents are quite the wine connoisseurs, they have about 300 or 400 bottles in their cellar. I am excited to try some of their offerings!

Make sure you install Vivino on your phone, so that you can shop in their basement knowledgeably.

Wow I’m seriously jealous! My parents: Mom drinks Pepsi and vodka. Dad drinks light beer.

So, Vivino is flogging 2011 Pingus at $1,000 per bottle. Anybody ever try Pingus?

Am I imagining things or does it seems like wine stores no longer indicate the dryness of wines?

They're getting away from the number system for describing sweetness and going towards a more accurate measurement of residual sugar in grams per liter. Have a look for that somewhere.

Holiday wine selection!
Left to right:
- Meiomi Pinot Noir 2016, California (Really enjoyed this last night with Greek style dinner. Very balanced. Notes of berries and oak, really fruity with a nice spicy finish).
- Malia Organic Prosecco (For mimosas on Xmas morning).
- Robert Mondavi Cab Sauv aged in Bourbon Barrels 2016, Monterey County, California. (Just really curious).
- Bourgeois Sancerre Rose Pinot Noir, 2015 (Probably will serve with Bouillabaisse when wife's fam shows up in a few days).
- J. Lohr Riverstone Chardonnay 2016, Arroyo Seco, California (Turkey dinner).
- Masi Costasera Amarone 2012 (First Amarone, very excited.)
- Marionette Wild 2016, Salmon Arm, BC (Merlot with natural fermentation).
- Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches Chardonnay 2015, Sonoma Coast, California (Turkey dinner pt 2).
- Tinhorn Creek Pinot Gris, 2016, Okanagan Valley, BC (Enjoyed tonight with brie appy and pulled pork dinner. Notes of green apple, citrus, and spice. Lots of flavour with dry finish. Cheapest of the bunch easily but holding it's own so far).
What you all drinking this Christmas CP?

Yep, the Meiomi is a solid choice at around $20 from Costco. Had salmon last night with pouilly-fuisse from Joseph Drouhin (Costco around $23) - excellent! Cooking ham for tonight; likely white again, but may go pint noir.

Ah that’s a good deal. I have to make the effort to get to Costco more (nearest one over an hour away). It was around $30 at the BC liquor store here which has the cheapest prices in town.
I saw that Joseph Drouhin on Vivino the other day, will have to pick it up.

Update: decided to break out the 1988 Amarone instead - I really hope it's not vinegar - have to drink it sometime.

Ooops, had the wrong link there. Anyhow, happy to report that it had not gone bad, though when the cork disintegrated, I was afraid. Superb! So was my ham. One of the best Jebus birthdays ever.

I just enjoyed a bottle of 2008 Fortissimo from La Stella, Okanagan. Still loads of primary fruit even at that age. Could have survived a few more years in bottle for sure.

Very nice, sir.
I had a bottle of Moraine Cliffhanger white with the turkey tonight. Could have been a touch sweeter with the gwertztraminer for my taste, but it played pretty nicely with the blended viognier.
I may try the petit blanc from Le Vieux Pin, the sister winery of La Stella, soon.

I believe in the Jays.

Yesterday was Canadian Riesling with Honey Glazed Ham and Asparagus, today was Australian Margerate River Cab Sauv with roast beef, tommorow is the big turkey dinner... haven't decided on the wine yet... I'm leaning towards a Southern Rhone white but the NZ Blanc De Noir is tempting.

Just having a bottle of this tonight and it's great, plus we wouldnt have found it without the tips in here about Vivino. My wife and I both love wine but are going to try and make it more of a hobby. So thanks for all the tips and keep them coming!
