I would go so far as to say the Oilers are easily the 3rd most popular team in Canada.
A few years back we were in the NHL store in Manhattan and it was equally surprising to see a huge Oilers section of merch there, vs some bottom shelf minimal Flames gear, really out of the way. The losers up north are really riding the 80s hard.

When lived in NYC a few years back people would always notice my Flames hat.

Seems New York taxi drivers are big hockey fans.

Regardless of your views on his politics or views...KK was a ####ing rock in the organization and a pillar of the community. The guy bled red. RIP Ken.

When you're constantly drafting 1st over all you get a lot of exciting names which drives up popularity. Any season now it will payoff on the ice!

Aaaaaany season now it will pay off!

Any one...

In the early 2000s I remember watching a game at the dome and Ken King just came down and sat in the empty seat in from of me and started shooting the shee.

Imagine the president of an NHL team just chatting hockey with me out of the blue because I happened to be watching it beside him. Guy obviously just wanted to get in there with the fans for a period.

I gained a lot of respect for the man when I got to sit at his table at the Flames annual poker tournament.
