I had quoted some of the posts about recent bike route complaints or questions *but then my browser crashed so I'm just going to do a single post*. I'd also like to complain or question about the riverpath system.
Coming from South Calgary I'm interested to know when the connection(s) in certain areas will return. I understand it might be awhile, but trying to ride my bike into downtown is awful. Certianly not encouraging *me to not drive* at all.
East side of river, under Deerfoot Trail, connection between DouglasDale and DouglasGlen *closed*
West side of river, between southland (dog park) and Diamond Cove *closed*
North side of Glenmore, river path bridge providing access to Beaver Dam Flats *is washed away* (I think that's what the park is called). *Now requires* cutting through Odgen along Millican Road and Ogden Road which is awful.
Additionally, with the above, if you try to cut through refinery park the signage is awful, I've wasted 15 minutes two different days bombing around in there trying to get out.
Inglewood, coming off the path about 9th avenue, after the bird sanctuary and the wetlands, there's one sign up saying "bow river pathway" pointing somewhere, but in two days *of rides* I've not found where I'm acutally supposed to go.
5th street, 6th street and confluence way SE, no signs, no idea where to go, bikes on the road, sidewalk, grass, and an area that I'm not sure if it's vehicle street parking or a bike lane.
Anyway, just a bit of a disaster.
Thanks!
Apologies if the above rant was a bit tough to follow. Didn't proof read before posting. I added some bolded items that might clear it up a bit. That said, never heard anything back although I understand if there's not much to say in response.
Came to post this:
The two circle areas were blown out last year by the flood (nothing new), by the way what was that weird pond like area for anyway? Now it's just the main route for the river it seems, a very high/fast flowing area whereas the prior route looks like a secondary river flow.
But today the area I indicated with a red line has now been closed because the path is collapsing and falling into the river (must have happened last night or this morning). Another area that has now become unpassable along the river making bike commutes and general path travel much worse. I was told to go back to 18th street... I didn't catch the rest but assume they wanted me to take 18th across Glenmore then find my way through ogden.

Huh, I guess you're right. I'll see if I can find out why.

I noticed this as well and asked on twitter. Got this response

during the public consultation the vast majority didn't know it was on our old paint scheme. So we felt safe to leave it off.

Is there any chance the city might consider closing down the airport tunnel a couple nights during the summer for car racing/other car fun? Seems like a perfect fit. Walking through there at the opening and seeing all the pretty cars got me to thinking, and probably lots of other people too.
Oh imagine the sounds... (try watching with headphones)

Hunh. Thanks. Not surprised that folks would miss the huge numbers on the sides of the unit and assume that calling them would get you the police in a non-emergency manner, though.

What he didn't tell you, was that due to budget constraints, adding the new and additional "(403)"'s would have meant they'd have to have downgraded to Smart cars

This is a really weird question, but it's big news right now so I'll throw it out there and see what you've got for me Bunk.
Obviously there is talk about another young man from Calgary joining militants in the middle east to fight. CBC has been talking about it all morning.
Now obviously questions are many and answers are few to none. The big question is, why is this becoming such a problem in Calgary? Is it simply a cell under the radar? Is there a larger cultural cause? (These aren't my question, mine is at the bottom) But one comment from the journalist was that they weren't getting any information from the police or the mayors office.
The inclusion of the mayors office seemed weird to me. Obviously the police would be involved, but with any investigation of terrorism or national security I would imagine the big players would be RCMP, CSIS, and other such organizations.
Besides being briefed on such situations, would the mayors office really have any role in something like this anyway?
So I recall seeing a plan to change/fix DF northbound coming up to the Southland interchange but dont remember when or if that was scheduled. Also not sure if that was Provincial as it had to do with DF. Any info?
