Meh... Meant to be a shelter. Seems it's doing that job well. Not sure what the outrage is over.

If you are soeading millions of dollars make it more accomodating. So when there are old people etc they should be happy to stand? Thays good enough? These are literally 20 feet wide shelteees with 3 feet of seating.

You're argument makes zero sense. On a per square footage basis, you will fit more people by having them stand vs sitting. There are enough seats to suit pregnant women, elderly, etc, as long as others give up the seat for them. No benches also makes it more wheelchair and stroller friendly. Also reduces invitation to loiter.

The needs for shelter and seating both increase when the service is late. Hostile architecture (which this isn't, but resembles) sucks.

Speaking of those BRT shelters; how the hell are they supposed to be efficiently heated when they have glass walls with big air gaps between all the panels and floor / roof?

Yeah, that seemed like an obvious design flaw to me, too.

Are they infrared heaters? If so, they heat the objects, not the air, so air gaps won't matter much.

While this thread has become more of a general municipal politics catch all lately it is worth noting that CP has lost its contact in the Mayor's office, as Daorcey Le Bray finished as his communications guy on Friday.
It was pretty cool to have such access over the years first from Bunk and then Daorcey (although he didn't post as much).

Maybe one or two more posts in this thread. I interviewed the Mayor for the podcast - we talked about his political philosophy, partisanship, and the Olympics.
Have a listen. He has a lot of interesting things to say about the potential bid

Glad this got bumped today, because I listened to this last week and I wanted to post about it. I really liked hearing some of the thoughts from Nenshi and it kind of made me remember why I vote for him. In particular his thoughts on the new library and comments about being the best city (chosen by the Economist) in the western hemisphere.

Heaters in things like bus shelters are not intended to bring things to room temperature, just basically to take the edge off the cold. All the new train stations are similar.

So with the distraction of the provincial election and the antics of the bozo in Ottawa, our own "leader" is back to doing what he does best, with little fanfare.

7.77% population growth and 4.67% inflation comes out to a 12.8% increase (it's not a simple addition of the two) overall to spend equivalent dollars on each resident year over year. I suppose a 2.8% increase in equivalent dollars (not the simple 16% - 12,8% here either) isn't as sexy to yell about, though.

That’s not what their charts show.
http://www.albertainstitute.ca/2019/...r-report-2019/
They show 3% pop and 4.5% inflation, the Math appears to be correct as they stated. A big difference would be the municipal cost index vs true inflation rate which has some interesting debate around it.
The big gap is the first year where there was a 7% increase in spending.

I'm not sure about the "annual savings per household" at the bottom there. Seems a bit misleading, because I have to assume the city's budget isn't 100% funded by homeowners.
