imagine getting both Mercer and Lundell. Would set us up beautifully down the middle going forward. People get obsessed when it comes to draft picks (and I get it, I do too ), but I'd certainly take adding two young, promising centermen who can step into the lineup immediately.

It has value for both the team that takes him and for Hanifin. Control can always play chicken with Hanifin and say that they are going to keep him for a playoff push. I best he might expand the number of teams he would extend for in that case.

If it is Lundell I would expect it to almost be a 1 for 1 deal for or even the Flame adding and taking back a Dman or something?
lol we would we adding to the best player in the trade ?

You’re right, we shouldn’t expect Lundell to be included. They have some good prospects though- Mackie Samoskevich, Gracyn Sawchyn, and Jack Devine. Some lesser prospects with potential are Vlad Lukashevich, and Jakub Kos- neither of which should be the centerpiece of a Hanifin deal.

I always wonder when these rumour breakers say "I'm told...", who the f... tells them? It's a GM to GM call on a mobile phone. There are a couple of AGM's who are on it as well. There is no way either one of those three people call Weekes to let him know.

If Florida won’t put lundell in deal , what would deal look like? Mackie and a 2026 1st for hanifin signed?

Florida really doesn’t have much to offer prospect wise

Except there are probably around 20-30 people involved in talks like these. easily. each organization would have entire staffs working and liaising with each player agent and their agency counterparts etc.

You cross the GM as a media member, all of a sudden, you as the conduit to agents etc is gone, which is why guys that know this info don't automatically leak it.

Which IMO is why Markstrom 's upset, the NJ thing likely shouldn't have gotten out via the agent or media member.

There are also some that know those in the league office. Dreger has a source in the league office (or at least he did) who sees the trade faxes come in. The Jokinen 2.0 acquisition which he errored in reporting a day early, was because of having that source.

Really this likely will be as good a shot as the Panthers will have as eventually the cap monster will come after them. No real cup contender will give up a good roster player they
aren't trying to get rid off right now. So I doubt Lundell will be in this package. But I would not be surprised if Florida ends up getting Hanifin.

These trade threads are all the same.
Positive crowd: we should get a decent prospect or at least a good return.

Negative crowd: You are not getting (insert any decent prospect here).

It would be a bigger deal but when do rentals get traded for former high first rounders who have several years of cost control ahead?

Lundell is not a realistic ask for Hanifin in my opinion but if the deal is bigger maybe the Flames get a replacement Dman, toss in Rooney and the Dallas 2nd or something like that?

If they can turn Hanifin and Markstrom into Lundell and Holtz plus some other pieces the retool is off to a strong start

I do wonder if Ekblad is part of a package coming back. He’s underperformed his contract by a margin.

1) he's not a rental (for FLA)
2) Lundell requires a new contract as well
3) if you're quoting draft pedigree, Hanifin was a 5th OA

As much as I don’t agree with Frank Serivali when he has talked about the Flames players trade value he has been bang on recently specifically with Lindholm and Tanev (he also said Monahan would get a 1st).

He has stated the Hanifin market has been lukewarm and the return will be somewhere between what Lindholm got vs what Tanev got. That likely is a pick, roster player, prospect. I don’t know if they can land a 22 year old center who has better than 0.5ppg in almost 200 games

If all the Flames got out of trading Markstrom and Hanifin were Mercer and Lundell, it would solve a problem up the middle while seeming somewhat underwhelming return. It would also mean that not much else was on the table from other teams, at least, in Conroy's eyes. Still, having strength up the middle like that could be considered a reasonably big win.
