Do ittt. Don't get greedy

The devils have caved on the sticking point.

I really hope we don't let a recent 4 game run (off a 3 game loss) dictate our future..

Do it now if Markstrom is open to it.

I said it in the other Markstrom thread, but I now wonder if the news is a few days old, and what happened was:

1. NJ approached us about Markstrom without retention.
2. Markstrom told the Flames he was sick of the trade noise and just wants to focus on hockey this year, and will not waive this year.
3. We told NJ we are now keeping Markstrom for the rest of the year.

I wonder how much all this leaked information effects the trade, because it seems to be going back and forth, who has the upper hand now?

Holtz, Clarke and a 1st in 25. That works right?

Get some sort of center out of it.

Hopefully this trade happens by Sunday, leaving the rest of the week to work on the Hanifin deal
What did he say?

The fact that the Markstrom to NJ rumours refuse to go away speaks to the other team's desire to bring in the player.

NJ is re-approaching the negotiation table and caving on one of the Flames' demands. Evidently, internally, they've determined that Markstrom is their best and most viable option to address their goaltending now and moving forward.

The only one I'm interesting in them caving on though is Mercer. And I suspect this is a concession NJ hopes will allow them to get the trade done without sending Mercer.

Get it done Craig!

IMO, trading Markstrom just changes the whole perception of what happened this year. He did what he said he would do, and traded the UFAs for what he could get. And that's great. But Hanifin's return is probably going to be a bit disappointing, and when you add it all up, it'll be great, but I don't think it will have shortened the rebuild all that much. Plus, not getting the Markstrom trade, after being this close, would leave that 'what could have been' taste in the mouth.

However, add the potential return from Markstrom to the pile, and it looks completely different! It would really push it all over the top. And then there is the added benefit that the Flames' own picks, this year and next, would likely be better too.

If he can get the Markstrom deal done, this season will go down as one of the great GM-ing performances in Flames history.

I suspect they greatly reduced their offer in doing so. It might be Holtz and nothing else now.

Trade him!

Please.

Trade him!

With zero retention I’d consider a 1st round pick a win, so anything above that would be a massive win by Connie.

Clear the stage for a Vladar and Wolf tandem. The plan is in place.

In a 1 for 1 deal that’s a huge win for Conroy. We have Wolf and Vladar. Holtz would be a great add for the future. I’d love to see a 1 for 1 move like that.

Yeah sounds like NJ getting desperate. Conroy just needs to keep that middle finger up like he has so far with low ball offers.

I'd trade him in a heartbeat.. but does no salary retention a no strings attached thing or does it just mean they have to take on Vanacek or some other junk contract instead.

I'd imagine it was whatever they had before, just now they won't argue over what the retention was worth (additional 2nd etc).

I assume the Flames felt not having that $2M or whatever on the books was more important than a pick if it wasn't going to be substantial

This detail is often brushed aside in the speculation, but I'd suspect a roster goalie coming back the other way is a foregone conclusion.

I think Conroy is just trying to make them sweat. It’s a win-win for us, whether we keep him or not. He’d be a great asset in a trade or a great asset as a mentor to Wolf. There’s no rush in moving him and Jersey is getting desperate.
