Flames TSN: Hanifin decision expected in coming days. D market waits on Tanev

https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/insider...to-a-h~2861904

Insider trading:

Hanifin's agent is expected to meet with the Flames in the next few days to give a definitive decision on whether he will re-sign
If Flames can't re-sign him they will use the time between now and the trade deadline to move him

Many teams feel like Tanev will be the first domino on the D-man market.
Lebrun: Flames believed to be asking for a 2nd + another asset.
Leafs don't have a 2nd round pick in the next 3 years so it has been made clear to them that the Leafs' price is a 1st for Tanev. Lebrun is unsure if Treliving is willing to pay that price

Haha...you want him Brad, you got to pay extra! That's the price for screwing this team over on the way out.

Curious what you think Hanifin’s decision will be?

I honestly don’t think tanev will go for pics. Can see someone traded for him. Hmmm

Me as well, but I'm just as good trading him for another asset haul like Lindholm and really tearing this thing down to the studs. It's a sellers market, and this could set the team up very, very well long term if it's done right.

I hope he signs just because whenever fans are hoping for a chance at signing a high quality free agent, it’s depressing when the player gets extended by their own team and is off the market. No joy for the rest of the league!

He 100% will say they were in on some players (LeBrun will confirm Tanev) but that it didn’t make sense for the Leafs.

…he’ll then proceed to piss 3rd and 4th round picks away on much lesser players.

I think he knows he has the leverage here, that's all. He also knows Tre's M.O. of spending high picks to win now. He's pushing all in with the team he has in Toronto because he knows their window is now. Conroy is just capitalizing on that. Very smart, and another reason why I'm beginning to love him as a G.M.

He knows how much of a hard on Tre has for former players he hand picked.

I don't think Hanifin signs back with the Flames. I do expect him to sign a new contract at 8 years in a sign and trade. I'm just hoping he and his agent negotiate deals with multiple teams giving the Flames options to get the best deal possible.

Similar to the chucky trade.

This is probably the Leafs window. Nylander's contract kicks in next year. The core as a whole is another year older. If you don't go for it now, you may as well move on from the Big 4.

I'll have five 1st round picks . . . and five more 1st round picks

I wonder what approach Conroy will take? Did Hanifin initially say he wasn't sure he wanted to be back? Or do I have it wrong?

Any apprehension to me by any player about being here going forward is an invitation to detach from said player. You invest in being here or your gone would be my approach.
This is a business after all.
I certainly have no problem losing Hanifin.

Tanev I have an issue with because the guy is a 100% pro and I've never heard anything other than excellent things said about this guy as a team mate, human being and who dives face first into slapshots?

Heart and soul that snaggletooth
