Sometimes things are named due to support, service, money and corruption.
Look at the UofC buildings, you've got MacEwan, Craigie, MacKimmie and Scurfield. McMahon Stadium is named after a businessman.
If we find out in the future that these were bad people, we'll have to change all these names.

Well that's the thing. Taxes is most certainly a ballot box issue so raising taxes as you suggest may well cost a party an election. Or if they do, there are numerous "high priority" items looking for funding that the public seems to care about more.

I don't think raising taxes is as much a ballot box issue as people think, parties are just afraid to do. And who says you have to campaign on it, the current sitting government, whichever party is in power. We need less pandering anyways.
But say taxes are an issue, fine, don't raise taxes and the government can still raise First Nations out of poverty.

Well no argument from me that it is the right thing to do.
I don't really agree that raising taxes not a ballot box issue, I really think it is. But IMO the bigger point is, every dollar spent is crucial (ignoring the obscene waste at the government level) and often they look to spend it in areas where there is a political return.
You're suggesting the should ignore this consideration, which I agree with. But we shouldn't ignore the tragic political reality raised by the poster.

You mean where they can pocket the most money. There's so much waste and corruption. In the Canadian thread we were talking about 16.4 billion on consultants!

Agree with the idea of heavy taxes on the Catholic Church with the funds going directly to Indigenous communities.

That's about as much of a non-statement as you could make. Good job. He could be a politician.

No statement at all would have been better, to be honest.

Wow, quite the no apology statement but no surprise. I hate to distract from the real topic but the catholic church has to be one of the most evil and disgusting organization in history.

That is a very strange statement. I join in “closeness” to Canadian people? What does that even mean? Bizarre statement.

Canada does not. Most individual provinces do have an apology act of some sort now (or like Alberta amended their previous acts). But, for example, Quebec does not.
Edit: Quebec might have passed one last year.

I think it should be left like that. It tells the story of Canada honouring people who did horrible things and the response to it and hopefully change.
