For the love of Johnny - career prediction
Totally different players, but 20 years from now, who is going to be considered the greatest all time Flames player?
A. Johnny Hockey
B. Iggy
Iggy is a future HoF member who could score, fight, lead, and was in magnificent physical shape. Awards, trophies, gold medals. Perhaps the glaring omission might be a Stanley Cup
JH is just starting out his hockey career and already has been in the league's top scoring race at such a young age. He can razzle and dazzle, pass, create plays out of very little, and has a huge impact around the league with his small size. So much might be more to come.
Perhaps even more interesting, would you trade Johnny for the exact clone of Iggy and have him play out his career all over again, or roll the dice and see what comes with Johnny over the next 15 years?

Jiggy Hockey is my guess. Draft eligible in 2020.

Gotta take Iginla. 30 goals every season, hard in the corners, can push his way to the front of the net, can fight and stick up for his team. When he was in his prime he was the best in the league, right before Crosby and Ovechkin got going.

In terms of raw skill, Gaudreau may be the best player to ever play for the Flames. Until he plays 8-10 years of similar production, we will have to wait to see if he can wrangle the top player moniker from Jarome.

When I saw the thread title the immediate thought was "600 goals, 1300 points".

The Flames inability to build a team around Jarome Iginla and Miikka Kiprusoff is truly astonishing when you think about it. How was the best centre Iggy ever played with Daymond Langkow?

Way too early for me to predict that sort of thing. Johnny is off to a great start, but we still don't know what he will end up being.
Those trying to insert some othee player in Iginlas place as the current GOAT Flame are really reaching. It is crystal clear in my opinion.

It's astonishing. We were so inept, we traded Savard (whom had scored 4 goals in a game soon before) because of Gilbert, then fired Gilbert weeks later.

Iggy played here for 16 seasons and scored more than 500 goals and 1000pts as a flame. He was a huge part of the 2004 team that won 15 playoff games. The Flames only made the playoffs 5 times in that 16 year career (6 if you include Iggy playing his first game in the playoffs)
If Johnny leads this team to being a legit Cup contender for 5+ years which includes multiple deep playoff runs he might be remembered more fondly. I think the current Flames team is going to be a far better team than any that Iggy played for though.

Is Johnny more skilled than Kent Nilsson?
Both were 4th round picks. We got about 2500 points from Nilsson's draft pick overall (so far). Not bad.

Today's team is shaping up to be far more complete. Johnny won't be doing it all on his own.

I think it will still be Iginla. At his peak he was the best player in the world. Johnny is among the elite but I don't think you can look at him and say, "There's the best player in the NHL." Iginla is still putting up respectable numbers late in his career. Everything he does now is just gravy on top of what he accomplished with the Flames. I also think Iggy did it all with sub-par linemates. To think what he could have done if he had a centre like Monahan.
All that said, I would be more than happy to be proven wrong.
