Clearly the break was a bad thing because it took the flames 50 minutes to get going. Maybe a little more luck in those last 10 minutes and we might have seen overtime. We can thank smith for that even being a reality because without him the flames could easily have been down by 3 or 4.

It would be nice if the coaching/management appeared to be a little more committed to the "always earned, never given" motto.
I realize you can't just call guys up and down from the ahl when someone has a bad game, but I think there's been more than enough evidence to support giving a chance to Lazar for an extended period, at least. Who knows, maybe if he didn't have to worry about immediately sitting in the press box following a bad play, he might put some good games together.

Teams like the Blackhawks have room on their team for Hartman and Debrincat and this team can't get Janko in their team. I don't get it but I'm sure someone will chime in saying there is a reason

Not sure we can blame time off here. Blown out by the Sens and then squeaked a win out from a very bad team. Something needs to shift here. The optimist in me says we have the right pieces but they are not aligning. The pessimist says we have one true all star and he's got his work cut out for him.

Bennett still pointless thru 7 makes me very sad...
Shutout in 2 of 6, and nearly again tonight makes me sad...
All these PK minutes makes me sad...
The Oilers winning tonight makes me sad...

The Hawks are good at getting rid of players that can be replaced with young, cheap options.

I've never really been a fan of Gulutzan. I think the system is too restrictive, doesn't allow for enough creativity. In turn, it makes it tough to generate chances. On the flip side, it obviously also is weak defensively. No way that this group of defencemen should be allowing the types of chances / shots against they are.
Can you tack it up to laziness? Maybe, but I'm not sure.
I think this is a coaching issue. If Darryl Sutter is available, I honestly think he's somebody that should be pursued. Guy gets how to get the best efforts out of teams especially in year 1 from taking over. Gulutzan does not strike me as a great coach. He strikes me as an "okay" coach. Too technical.

They're not keeping to those short passes and puck support when moving up the ice like they were last spring. Once again trying those risky lateral and no look passes far too much. Have to have their heads up when they gain possession and get support. Can't really hang it on what the coach is preaching cause we've seen the system be effective first hand. Players are reluctant to buy in with full effort like early last season it looks like and falling on old habits.

Working the defense to death, game after game. Agree about penalties and shots.

- 4th line is pure deadweight they are slow and useless call up some guys with speed and energy.
- Sam Bennett move him to the wing
- In my head I'm wondering is GG the coach that will take the Flames deep. Alain Vigneault might be looking for a new job soon and If Im the Flames management I would be looking at him.

Flames are an easy team to defend as constructed, too slow on the wings, and GG runs a perimeter system. Forward roster not good enough.

If Frolik or Brodie score on those open nets and the refs called the holding the stick instead of the roughing at the end of the 2nd we are talking about a win right now.

The lack of discipline and penalties cost us the game. It's hard to generate any offensive flow when your players are in and out of the penalty box. Plus when you're always on the PK your best players are sitting on the bench.
We allowed them to skate uncontested through the neutral zone which allowed to gain enterance to the offensive zone and generate a lot of offence. Our team defence as a whole needs to better and it's not even close to where it was during the last half of the season before.
