Fox scores an empty net goal... 6-3 Harvard with 90 seconds left in the game.

First Beanpot win for Harvard since 1993.

Harvard pretty much dominated the whole game. Arguably more so once Hickey left the game.

Fox 1g 1a
Hickey 1a

Strange thing on that list...not many had any kind of NHL career. Very few recognizable names on that list.

Check the dates. Most of them went through the NCAA when it was still largely ignored by the NHL.

Werenski and Fox are the only ones there from this century, and Werenski is having a pretty good rookie year in Columbus this season.

Beyond that, there's only 3 other people from the last 30 years, and one of those is Brian Leetch. Greg Brown was Leetch's teammate at BC on a strong team that also had Craig Janney and Kevin Stevens.

It looks like Bentley was a Division II school the year Tobio put up so many points in 1998-99. They moved into Division I the following year. He put up those numbers against a lower level of competition.

Harrison also has a goal tonight.

Hickey isn't playing due to the injury he suffered during the Beanpot Final.

The up and down season continues for Mitchell Mattson.

Mattson had put up a nice stretch of games by putting up 13 points in the first 13 games after the Christmas break. That stretch put him tied for 2nd in team scoring.

However since the calendar flipped to February, he has gone cold with 0 points in 5 games including tonight where he got ejected for spearing.

Fox had an empty net goal in a 4-1 win.
Spoiler!

Hickey is still missing from injury.

Harrison had a goal in a 4-3 OT loss.

Tomorrow is the last day of the "regular" season for the ECAC and Hockey East (all 3 Flames prospects' teams will be in action).

While tomorrow's games might effect the seeding slightly for the ECAC and Hockey East tournament, both Harvard (currently 2nd in the ECAC) and BU (currently 3rd in Hockey East) earned byes to the quarterfinals. They won't play again until the March 10 weekend.

However, Colgate most definetly will play in the 1st round of the ECAC tournament next weekend. The opening round is a best of 3 series. It is very possible Harrison plays his last college hockey game next weekend.

That's like the Hail Mary of hockey goals. Normally even the best prospects misses those shots. Fox is just getting all the right bounces this season. Good for him.

Colgate needs to win today and have Princeton and Dartmouth both lose in order to move into a position where they would host the playoff games next week. After one period, Colgate, Princeton, and Dartmouth are all leading their games. No points for Harrison.

If Harvard wins today and Union loses, Harvard will finish first in ECAC. Otherwise, they'll be second. After one period, Harvard leads their game 3-0 (Fox with an assist), and Union trails theirs 1-0.

If BU wins their game today against Notre Dame, they'll be in a 3-way tie for first in Hockey East with UMass-Lowell and BC. In that scenario, I believe that BU would be the second seed in the playoffs. If they lose today, Notre Dame will win the Conference and BU will be the fourth seed. After one period, Notre Dame leads 1-0. Hickey isn't playing in the game, missing his fourth straight game.

If there's one good sign for Colgate it's that they had a 1-0-1 record against Princeton this season. Colgate definitely has to win next weekend to keep their season alive. They'll have to win the ECAC tournament to get an invite to the NCAA tournament.

Next week is a best of 3, with all games played at Princeton. If Colgate doesn't win, that will be the end of Harrison's College career. Then, we'll see if he gets offered a contract.

I'll be surprised if he does, although his stats are similar to Hathaway's, and they play a similar style of game, so maybe he could get an AHL-only deal like Hathaway signed out of College.

Hopefully another week's rest will be good enough for Hickey and he can return to BU's lineup for the playoffs in two weeks. College teams are even more tight-lipped about injuries than NHL teams, so it's difficult to know what Hickey's status is.

Regardless of how they do in their Conference tournaments, BU and Harvard both seem safe to get invites to the NCAA tournament, so Fox and Hickey will be playing until at least the end of March.

At the end of the regular season, Harvard sits at #2 in both of the national polls. Meanwhile, BU is #6 in the USA Today/USA Hockey poll and #7 in the USCHO.com poll.

In the current Pairwise rankings (which determine the 16 teams invited to the NCAA tournament), Harvard is 3rd and BU is 7th: http://www.uscho.com/rankings/pairwi...kings/d-i-men/

Fox named rookie of the year for the Ivy League

http://www.gocrimson.com/sports/mice...20170302n0hque

Quote:
he No. 2/2 Harvard men's hockey team swept the Ivy League end-of-season awards, as Ryan Donato was named Player of the Year, Adam Fox was selected the Rookie of the Year and Ted Donato was named the Coach of the Year, as announced by the conference office Thursday, March 2.

This marks the third-straight year a Harvard skater has been named Player of the Year and 12th since the award was first given in 1979-80. Fox is the 14th Harvard player to receive Rookie of the Year accolades in that same span.
Quote:
Donato and Fox were joined on the All-Ivy League first team by Alexander Kerfoot and Merrick Madsen. Freshman defenseman John Marino was selected to the All-Ivy second team and senior forward Tyler Moy was named honorable mention.
Quote:
Fox led all defensemen in the country with a 1.14 points per game mark. That mark tied him for fourth nationally among all freshmen skaters. He scored five goals and led the team with 27 assists. In the Ancient Eight, Fox tallied 10 points on two goals and eight assists, the most among freshmen and defensemen.

Harrison does all the work and picks up an assist: https://twitter.com/Colgate_Hockey/s...42188734251008

Princeton and Colgate are tied 2-2, late in the third period.

Colgate wins in OT. They are guaranteed at least two more games. One more win and they advance to the ECAC Quarterfinals.

Colgate was the only lower-seeded team to win in the ECAC tonight. I believe the ECAC bracket is re-sorted after this weekend's games, so if Colgate is the lowest-ranked team to advance, they will play Harvard next week.

Colgate loses game 2 of the 3 game series 4-3. Harrison had 1a.

Game 3 will be tomorrow. If Colgate loses, it will be Harrison's last college game.

Oh, this has to hurt.

Colgate was a second away from sweeping Princeton out of the playoffs. Princeton scored at 19:59 of the third to tie the game and scored again late in the first OT to force a third and deciding game tomorrow. Princeton takes it 4-3.

Harrison had an assist on Colgate's third goal.

All of the other series in the ECAC were swept by the higher-seeded team. If Colgate wins tomorrow, they will be the lowest-rated team to advance and will play Harvard next week. If Princeton wins, Harvard will play Yale.

Either way, Harvard will be the heavy favourite.

Three of the four Hockey East first round series were swept by the higher-ranked teams, but one is still to be decided tomorrow. The results of the final game will determine who BU will face next weekend.

New Hampshire will play Merrimack tomorrow. If Merrimack wins, they will face BU next week. If UNH wins, BU will take on Northeastern.

BU lost both games to Merrimack this season and won one and tied one against Northeastern.
