Former 1st round pick Logan Warmoth showing some power today with a double and an opo taco. He is also playing RF today, drafted as a SS. Is this the year he breaks out shows why he is was drafted in the 1st round.

God I love baseball. And so begins one of the most tedious months in sports. The excitement of spring training followed by the realization that it’s so bloody long and real games are still a month away.

Wow there’s a name I had forgotten about. I remember him putting up some pretty pedestrian numbers in the lower leagues. Would be pretty incredible if he turned it around!

Jays required Travis Bergen from the DBacks for cash. He will be fighting with Liriano to be the 2nd lefty out of the pen, if they do go with 2 lefties.

I would bet on Mayza before I'd bet on Bergen.

Luke Voit had about a hundred “Ya know”s in the bottom of the fifth inning when he was interviewed. My gawd, check yourself son. We thought Theo was bad. It mainly signals to me that you’re a dunce.

Bergen has the advantage as he is already on the 40 man. I don't doubt that Mayza will pitch for the Jays this year, I just think he starts in AAA.

It will be interesting to see the battle between Kirk and McGuire for the backup catcher spot. It probably should go to Kirk, but McGuire is out of options. Also if Jansen is going to get most of the starts it might be wise to keep the depth in place and let Kirk develop more in AAA.

Robbie Ray gave up a homer to none other than Anthony Alford lol
But other than that he had 2 K's in 2 innings and 24 strikes on 26 pitches. Filling up the strike zone. If he does that, with his stuff, it should be a good year.

Article on an under rated Jays pitching prospect who we may see make his MLB debut this season.
Unique, eye-opening fastball lands Murray on radar of Jays pitching coach
Quote:
While the 24-year-old eighth-round pick from the 2018 draft is an overlooked name at this point and isn’t yet on the 40-man roster, leaving him with a near-impossible battle to crack the team out of camp, Murray’s elite spin-rate fastball has led to the right-hander piling up strikeouts for nearly three years now.
After leading the organization in Ks in 2019 across three minor-league stops, Murray continued whiffing batters at the alternate site in Rochester last summer, this time with some added juice on his heater.
Using a four-seam fastball in the 88-91 mph range during his breakout ’19 campaign, Murray struck out 169 batters across 137.1 innings, an impressive 11.1 K/9.
With a unique high-spin offering that creates a rising effect and has confused hitters at every stop, the organization — and Murray himself — were clearly excited when that fastball started ticking up into the 91-93 mph range.
|
Quote:
A 2,200-2,300 rpm four-seamer is about MLB average.
Murray’s?
It has been recorded on Rapsodo technology in the 2,800 rpm range, which puts him in line with the 2020 four-seam spin king, Trevor Bauer, who averaged 2,776 rpm on his way to a 1.73 ERA and the NL Cy Young Award.

Yeah, there are a lot of fluffy stories this time of year.
Everybody is in the best shape of their lives and they've really worked on some things that are going to make a difference going forward right?
Spin rate is real though, and this guys spin rate elite, and the results show. Look at his K rates at all levels, and that was with an 88-91 mph 4 seamer and only one real effective secondary. Now he's up to 90-93 mph and supposedly has improved his secondary's.
I guess we'll see.

Except his strikeout rates in the minors are ridiculously good. So it's not really just a random guy.
His story is pretty popular around baseball.
He throws the Invisiball!

Is there a more clean and enjoyable sound in sport than the crack of a bat hitting a ball? My favourite part of spring training is that noise being so clear.

Baseball has all the best sounds. A perfectly caught ball in a glove is a close second to the crack of a bat.
