Garbage bag day: Monahan had 4 surgeries!
gotta go in an hour to catch a flight but news starting to trickle out as players finish their season end interviews:
Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
First up on #Flames exit day, LW Matthew Tkachuk confirms what was suspected, he has been out due to a concussion.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Tkachuk says if games meant something down the stretch, he’d have been in the lineup.
Says he won’t be going to World Championships. #Flames
Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
Tkachuk: “I feel good. It’s obviously a little bit frustrating…very frustrating…just the way things went, the health at the time, important stretch of the year. I wish it didn’t happen but I feel good now.”

sounds like Gulutzan is still scheduled to meet with the media today, so if you were hoping for a firing today, doesn't look like it will happen. At least not yet

Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
More Tkachuk: "My flight home is April 11. It’s not the way we drew it up, not at the beginning of the year. I hope we all look at it in maybe two months when teams are playing in the Cup Final and realizing our season has been two months over and that’s where we want to be.”
Aaron Vickers
@AAVickers
Last one from Tkachuk, on if his second year in the NHL was a success: "I don’t look at it when people say, ‘you had a better year…offensively you produced a little bit more.’ It’s not about that at all. I didn’t do enough to get the team into the playoffs.”

Man, Tkachuk could be our Captain next season if Gio wasn't here.
He's been the most impressive flame this year. Great skill, smart, but most importantly, 100% heart.

Well they'd better do it quick before all the available coaches get snapped up by other teams. At least within the next couple of days would be ideal.

Didn't we have a coach 7-9 seasons ago that didn't get "fired" but "stepped down"?
Hopefully GG is "stepping down" in his scheduled meeting today.

One of the main reasons why I still have faith in the future of this team is Tkachuk. 19 year old kid who sounds like a 15 year grizzled vet. Takes ownership of this years failure and looks to the future. He is a future captain no question.

Can't give him a letter or he won't be able to run around as much. And if he's not taking liberties, whats the point really?

Yeah, this is my dilemma. I get the yearning to have Tkachuk as the team's captain, but I am not convinced that the addition of a letter would produce much change on his effect in the dressing room, and it could be an impediment to his effectiveness on the ice.
In the end, I am just not that convinced that the distribution of letters is all that critical to team success.

I guess the hope is that he would get the team to engage a little more physically. He would definitely be a "follow my lead" kind of leader.
That being said, Gio is just as passionate and it didn't seem to make much of a difference this season.
