No to anything remotely relating to cowboys or western culture in general. I understand that’s part of the culture here but it looks awful and corny on a jersey.

I don't remember if it was a "this were the other submissions" or if it was some fanboy "this is what else we could use" article in the Sun, but around the time the wordmark thirds came out I remember seeing skateboot in that article.
Looks as bad now as it did then. That would have easily been the worst logo in the NHL if that ever came to light.

When they introduced the wordmark jersey, they put out a video showing the process of developing it. At one point in the video, they show a wall covered in various design ideas and skate boot is one of them.

That looks about right. Most of those were in the article. There was one Calgary Tower themed one too IIRC.

The one they actually did choose to use as the shoulder patch on the wordmark 3rds is a nice design. All the other designs shown there are pretty unattractive.
It's really strange that the organization can't do much better with a theme like fire to work with. Fire should be so good for designing a logo, but so much attention is given to the cowboy stuff and making sure it includes the letters C and F instead. They need to just go with fire.

I think they should have fully committed to skate boot. Custom skate-boot skates, cowboy hat helmets, brown leather pants and gloves, hockey pant chaps, some stick holsters, and visors with moustaches on the front. Go all in.
