And 3 of those penalties beat him straight down the middle.

Dont be such a Croatian! I want them to succeed too but its a common Croatian mistake to overlook the next opponent.
Its why Croatia's biggest National Export is 'Crippling Disappointment.'
Beat the Danes first, then worry about the next match.

"Crippling Disappointment"? Sorry. What? For a country of 4 million people, Croatia does pretty damn well athletically.

My Dad has the same attitude. I have to remind him all the time that Croatia is a tiny country that has world-class players and is always in the conversation for soccer.
I'm allowed to look past Denmark as long as the players don't. Modric and Mandzu need to have their best games moving forward, Croatia may not have a better look at a World Cup in a long time.

I understand that, I mean from a soccer perspective they've fielded some amazing teams that just always fall short, and not just of their own fans' expectations but from the soccer world in general.
They produce amazing players that when you combine them just seem to underperform and frankly, Russia just threw them an enormous lifeline.
Croatia are, in my opinion, easily the best team on the right side of the bracket. They could make the Final.
But they have a history of overlooking opponents and underperforming.
Hence: "Crippling Disappointment."
Also it was supposed to be more 'funny to the average fan' than purely literal.

Best run since 1988 Euros. I was expecting a 5-0 loss. Lenin walked over from the mausoleum to deliver this one.

Croatia is a good team, they will beat Denmark but they would have been a better bet against Spain then Russia. The Russians have a very interesting multi-faceted home team advantage here and their win against Spain was not a surprise.
It will take a very clear win to defeat them, in boxing terms any team beating them will require a "knockout", they will not get a "decision". The team defends very well and have the best goalie in the tournament.

I think Spains style benefited them, not much pace up front for Spain to get behind their slow back line. Spain was comfortable passing side to side but struggled to use their midfield edge to their adavantage. I think Russia will struggle more against a team that is more willing to sit back while exploiting their defense on the counter

I agree, regardless, it will be very competitive match. Aside from the relative strength of the teams the most significant moment to me was that clear penalty with 7 minutes left that was not called. Piquet was rugby tackled, VAR caught it, yet they did not overturn the call.
Was it just a "mistake"? lol...

That was a 50/50 call to me, I honestly don’t know what constitutes a foul on set peices anymore. It looked close but wasn’t called on the field, and it’s in Russia.

I don't like this Croatia kit. Looks like the Dutch black kit.

Red and white vs red and white. Both teams have to wear clash strips.
What do the referees wear? Red of course.

And that seems to be the consensus.
Theres so much pushing and shoving at that point its hard to tell who started what and if someone fell easily and apparently Pique wasnt as close to the ball as we all think he was.
It was a judgement call.
Bjorn Kuipers is no amateur, he consulted VAR and stuck with his call.
At the end of the day if Spain needed some sort of last-ditch semi-penalty against Russia then they didnt deserve the win anyways.
Spain had every advantage and capitalized on none of them.
