So many great stories on the caps roster. Hard not to be happy for any one of them.

Maybe do a better job defending your position next time?

Because, when your only argument is "I'm right because I say so and anyone who disagrees with me is an Oilers fan", it means you just got your ass handed to you in a debate.

Can we get Andre Burakovsky? He is best friends with Rasmus after all.

It's the latter of June 15th or 48 hours after the end of the Final. Therefore, this year, it's June 15th.

Is Monahan one of the 50 best players in the league? Those are your elite players IMO. Maybe even a smaller group than that.

He certainly has some of the best goal scoring skills in the league, especially among centers. But arguing over whether a player is elite or not is just arguing semantics.

What is better - elite or star?

Fair enough, but no matter what the description, Monahan has skills as good or better than Tkachuk, which was my point.

"elite goal scorer"

was the argument...he obviously is

138 goals in his first 5 NHL seasons, far less than 50 active players can match that...maybe a handful

I think that’s a very good point. Monahan is more “elite” than Tkachuk as it stands today. One can certainly see Tkachuk’s trajectory but the point still stands.

He was tied for 27th in goals in the NHL last year, tied for 36th, 38th, 12th and 77th the years before that. As you point out, he has been remarkably consistent since joining the league and was productive immediately.

When it comes to goal scorers, is he elite in that category of player? I am not going to jump all over someone who claims that Monahan’s production hasn’t yet risen to their definition of elite. I don’t see it to be quite as obvious as you do.

When it comes to goal scorers, is he elite in that category of player?

Playing through several injuries and with a brutally injured wrist.

But it's not just the number of goals, it's the deadly release, and his clear penchant for scoring big, game winning and OT goals. To the point where it's pronounced.

Semantics indeed, as is just about everything discussed about sports.

But the case for him being an elite scorer is a compelling one, and he's still growing his game with room to improve on already impressive top end numbers.

The term "elite" is overused. Monahan is great, but not elite

Once again, it's a subjective term, and overall, I'd say there are very few elite overall players in the game.

But if you read closer, he was being discussed as an elite goal scorer, which It think there's a very good case for.
