Or it is as legit as the Gaudreau+ for Couturier+ deal that someone with insider knowledge mentioned was close at the deadline.
Maybe these folks have insider info but I highly doubt they have the fine details.
I don’t see how Arizona makes that trade. The prospect would have to be Broberg/Bouchard and the 1st unprotected with the Yotes rolling the dice the Oilers suck again next year which is a decent bet

I'm not prepared to give up anything for Hall's rights. Plus, I don't want OEL. I still like Gaudreau for picks/prospects. Use his 6.5 to try to get Hall. If we can't get him, then find someone else. Live with the present goalies, tap into the talent on the farm. If we're not going to utilize the players in Stockton then why have them? We're busy looking at all the other teams prospects and ignoring ours. We're not winning the cup next year. It's time to look longer term on that. I also don't care if the "window" is there, all I want is to see a team that is exciting to watch.

I feel like the organization would be leery of trading Gaudreau without knowing they had a top line forward coming back. Getting Hall’s rights helps significantly in moving forward with the plan.
I do wonder if there is something going on where the Flames are getting to negotiate with Hall then they pull the trigger on picks+Rittich for Kuemper and Hall signed.
Then move Johnny for a package that includes a 1st and very little cap coming back

When asked about what player or players do the "media get it wrong with" Geoff Ward just backed Gaudreau and Monahan hugely on the Fan 590 - Burke also backed him up on this.
Given they just did a team-wide assessment, I'd say neither of those guys are going anywhere.
Ward now talking about Rittich working with a specialist to improve mental focus

Generally, thats the kiss of death. Any time someone backs specific people, the end is nigh.

I don’t see how this team doesn’t make at least one seismic trade?
Acquiring a goalie and moving around some spare parts is not enough in my opinion.

I could very easily see a boring off-season because so many teams are trying to shed salary and reduce costs. If that's true, the offers may not be that great.

Picks that would help this core group win were made 3-12 years ago.
Andrew Mangiapane, rasmus Andersson and Oliver kylington were drafted FIVE YEARS AGO.
There's no immediate help coming in the form of drafted players.
If you're going to do something, do it 110%,
This team and their results were cast years ago man. It's the entire reason why theyve been trading picks in the first place, they have no talent.

Certainly an option, not the way I'd go though.
I think you need a balance to avoid the sahara desert after a 5 year window.
That and your view is a static one without the option to adjust the team's view about the future.
Thinking the Flames had a core to build around three years ago with Monahan and Gaudreau developing chemistry, Tkachuk drafted, Andersson and Valimaki coming on, and a solid trade with Carolina adding some depth was one thing.
Thinking that core is the one to add to now isn't the same case in my mind.
The core has shown they don't have the mental side of the game for the most part to compete in the big games and big series.
If they agree with that assessment you don't continue to go all in ... you alter the core and see what you have.

Here we go:
Giordano + Rittich + 2nd in 2020 and conditional 3rd in 2021
For OEL + Kuemper
Hanifin + Ryan for Dumba + 3rd in 2020
Sign Hall
Gaudreau Monahan Hall
Tkachuk Backlund Lindholm
Mangiapagne Bennett Dube
Lucic Gawdin Rieder
Ruzicka
OEL Andersson
Valimaki Dumba
Mackey Kylington
Yelesin
Kuemper
Greiss????
Tight but doable cap wise.

Then they'd better be going 110% into rebuilding

If you live in a ditch to ditch world yes.
I don't.
I think you can look at a room that needs a change in how the team responds in pressure games, try to isolate the player that needs to be changed out, and make a deal that maybe takes a bit of a step back in talent, but alters the room and opens up opportunity to others.

So, apparently a Toffoli signing should be happening any day now. Also rumours that Markstrom won't be far behind.
Sounds like Stecher and Virtanen are both going to hit UFA though.

So you're saying the core was worth building around 3 years ago by moving picks, but the core proved to be bad so now the course of action is to change out a component of that core and not build around them anymore and instead just run with your new core without any support.
Sounds like a very exciting recipe for a 9th place team.

What's wrong with Stecher? Or is it just a money move?
I see his QO is $2,325,000

Money move.
The QO isn't the issue, they're afraid of what he'll get in arbitration. So you don't Qualify him and then you come back with an offer when UFA.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with Stecher. He's a heart and soul bottom pairing guy who can play into the top 4 for short periods when needed. He has his warts, but the guy will go to war for you. I hope the Canucks find a way to bring him back.

Flames signing Stetcher at $2.5 or even up to $3.0 wouldn't be a bad move. Right shot guy, a little on the small side, but isn't soft.
He can probably step into Brodie's place next to Gio and it would give Valimaki, Kylington and Mackey some more time to develop into a top 4 role.
The money saved on defense could be used to sign Hall and a goalie.
Blaster: you think the Canucks would go to $3.0 million for Stetcher?

yeah I wouldn't mind Stetcher at that amount. Upgrade over other bottom pairing guys we've tried lately, and as you noted could bridge the gap until one of our younger D is ready for a bigger role.

Be careful what you wish for in those situations as the Alberta teams are all too familiar!
