First time I saw him interviewed was a video conference on TSN and he was laying in bed.

To me he is the poster child for a 2/3 yr bridge deal - but I would doubt he would or any other young player would consider that these days

I bet he would consider it if the alternative was not playing at all.

If laine (or any of these RFA’s) don't sign by dec something, they are not able to play for the rest of the year. What's the end date of a team owning their rights?

I believe until they are 27.
Or play 7 NHL seasons, which can’t happen in a holdout.

Maybe it's because he was asked at the World Cup how to properly pronounce his name, said 'Line' and has been hearing Line-Eh ever since.

Based on what I've read about Winnipeg, all things being equal i'd probably rather live in Tampere though.

It would be refreshing to see a team stand their ground.

Wasn't he one of the players rumoured to be submarining his career with video game addiction?

So if we trust Laine's words here - the qualifying offer is the only thing on the table and those are rarely accepted by a player straight up and NEVER for a player in his situation - I would think that his friend Jesse Puljujärvi would be way more likely to accept his qualifying offer over Laine's and he hasn't - but then again, he (Jesse) hates the Oilers and there is no way he returns there.

Maybe I missed it, but I don't think he said that the qualifying offer was the only thing on the table.
I would bet there was contact at some point, Laine rebuffed their offers and no contact since. Eventually the ball is in the other court and the player/agent needs to initiate contact. It's a bad negotiating strategy to look like you are getting nervous and right now, it looks like both sides are playing poker a little.

I think we could see some RFA for RFA swaps soon. Far too many great RFA players not signed and a growing stale mate between agents and teams.
I dont know why the hold up. Teams always blink first. Just do it already.

I think most players are waiting to see what Marner gets and it seems like Marner is the least likely to bend and accept a lower salary.

It's Dubas taking a stand - "You have driven over me, and then backed up and drove over me again, but if you try it a third time... look out!"

I've never understood why MLSE entrusted the Nylander, Matthews and Marner extensions to such an unproven commodity.
When Lou Lamoriello sits across from your agent and tells him that his client isn't worth X because he's never achieved Y, and that the organization has a plan and a number in mind to achieve its ultimate goal, that carries weight.
Every single person Dubas negotiates with has accomplished more in pro hockey than he has. You can't take someone seriously when they're asking you to sacrifice and pay your dues when they're the GM of the Maple Leafs and they're tripping over their own umbilical cord every time they get up out their chair.
They made all the right moves prior to giving Dubas the reigns. Draft Marner. Send him back. Hire Babcock. Hire Lou. Draft Matthews. Trade for Andersen.
That's what you want out of a rebuild. They didn't keep Lamoriello around because I guess they were worried he'd die? I don't know. But the only way you get good at high stakes contract negotiations is to be involved in a bunch of them. Dubas hasn't, and it shows. It showed when it took until December to sign Nylander to a deal that should have been done in August, it showed when he walked Matthews to UFA without a penny discounted, and it's been apparent for months with Marner.
A GM who can't negotiate contracts is a liability no matter how good a talent evaluator he is.

Powerplay Quarterback

What a bizarre situation but Chev plays hardball and has all the cards. Good on him, kid needs to grow up and this will most definitely teach him a thing or two...
I think their fans have come to expect Chev's approach too. And kid is underestimating their resolve.

I can see Laine going to Philly for a package including Konecny.
