On today's episode of "Why is Baseball Dying?", the Dodgers are pulling Kershaw six outs from a perfect game and they are up 6-0 and he's on 80 pitches.....like wtf?

Which is like 50% more than most starters have gotten so far. Too much for start of the season and lockout shortened spring training, his arm might fall off!
Seriously though, shorted spring training, first outing of the season and injury prone. He did great. I get that we want to see perfect games, but his health is very important to the Dodgers rotation.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I wonder if he has a bonus in his contract for a perfect game.

Oh no we all get it. But it's again where the new age approach ultimately robs great moments from the sport and part of what makes it so hard to sell to new fans. Like what kinda pitch is "Come watch our sport, where a guy will come within six outs of one of the rarest things in the sport, but his manager won't even give him a chance because pitch count"?

Surprised that people are defending the choice to pull him. In baseball terms he is an oldtimer, first ballot hall of famer, one of the greatest Dodgers of all time. He has never had a perfect game, and only 23 have ever been thrown. He was at 80 pitches.
It would have been fine for the manager to ask him, but the call should have been Kershaws. Black eye on the sport, IMO.

I watched the movie The Perfect Game with two friends who are not baseball fans. One pretty much hates all sports. They both were drawn into the drama of the story, and 90% of that movie was on the field over the course of one game.

Absolute travesty, I'd riot if Montoya pulled a Jays pitcher 6 outs away from a perfect game, regardless pitch count, let the ####ing player make the decision. Can wax poetic about that being "individual stuff" all they want, and I know Kershaw is just trying to be a good teammate, but jesus christ, it's something that immortalizes the players who accomplish it, way to rob him of a chance to put his name in history.
Home plate umpire Bill Miller only allowed Kenley Jansen three warm-up pitches before the 9th inning, which set off Jansen, because apparently he took too long to get on the mound. I've never seen that before.
Hunter Greene set a new MLB single-game record last night with 39 pitches clocked at 100 mph or over. He's embarrassing some of the best hitters in the world. He's only had two big league starts.

Sounds like he'll blow out his arm in no time. Can't be sustainable.
It was the ninth straight game in which a Giants starter allowed two runs or fewer, the second longest streak since 1901. Only the 1966 Chicago White Sox (11) have had a more extensive stretch to open a season.
I didn't realize TSN has the ESPN 30 for 30's up, but looks like they have a few more new ones posted. Currently watching the McGuire vs. Sosa race. So far well captured feel of the time. Enjoy!
José Ramírez has recorded 19 RBI over the first 10 games of the season, meaning he is on pace for 308 RBI this season which would be an MLB record. Lol
