I watched parts of the game last night.
I was impressed with quite a few guys. I thought Zary stood out. Tanev looked like a big guy out there doing big guy things and that is needed. Mackey looked great wearing #3.

Funny that many thought Rittich was really good last night....i was really underwhelmed. He did make a couple really nice saves but his rebound control off his pads and particularly his trapper was abysmal. Looked like he was fighting the puck badly at times. Not a huge deal though, many guys struggle early on with those things.
Mangiapane was a bit of a revelation. He "looks" bigger somehow. May just be as simple as he is that confident now and that makes him stand out.
One guy i thought struggled was Gio...hopefully just a blip.
One thing is for sure is the team us quite deep. The dearth of RH shots though...ugh.

I also thought Markstrom was meh last night. He made a bunch of the saves he should have made but didn't seem overly comfortable.
Rittich did not look great on the goal he gave up and I agree his rebound control was not great, but he did make a bunch of really good saves.
Domingue was a surprise. After letting in the first goal relatively quickly, he played well. Would be moderately confident if we had to use him for a game or two due to injuries. Not sure I'd want to run into the playoffs with him as the Number 1 though.
Forward group looked pretty good... but it was a no contact game. Will be interesting to see how they fair once the hitting starts.

Gio is going to be his elite, Norris, self. He's the ultimate gamer - I've watched him over the years use pre-season to dial in his timing, shot etc.
When the chips are down he plays his best because that's when it's intense. He executes. He just seems to always make the right plays.
Andersson is skating great - I don't know if he worked on it but he's really moving well.
As excited I am for the forwards the defencemen look great too. Team is quality everywhere.
They just need to work and compete hard.

What I meant was that every team has already scouted them both - they didn't need to go '"hey, we should go check those guys out tonight, the Flames are playing them in a scrimmage!"

I believe Domingue would have been given the "L" for last night. Gaudreau's goal ended up being the winner.

I think it’s interchangeable. Mangiapane looks fantastic with Tkachuk and Lindholm (but also Backlund), and Dube also looks great with Bennett and Lucic. Think it depends on the night and the matchups.

I thought Zary looked pretty meh. Reminded me of Sam Bennett when he first came up. Spent too much time on his ass or knees. Needs to get stronger to play at this level. Showed some smarts, but does not yet think quick enough at this level. Conversely I thought Pelletier looked better in most regards. Stronger and kept his play much simpler having a more consistent impact. Both look like really good future players, but of the two I suspect Pelletier will find his way into the lineup sooner. No knock on Zary, just has some growing and maturation to go through.

It's surprising that you would prefer Pelletier's game last night to Zary's. Ward commented on Zary getting 4 shots on goal and he and his line consistently played in the offensive zone with him being involved in the play. Pelletier looked decent, due to his excellent skating and effort on the forecheck and in the Dzone, but he didn't do anything remarkable that I can remember. No disrespect to Pelletier, but simply fitting in at his second camp as a first round pick is a fairly low bar.

Zary also got to play with NHL player in Ryan, Pelletier wasn't so lucky
