I imagine they have a deal agreed to in principle but they have to wait until someone goes on LTIR — Steen?

All things being equal, there’s a one-year contract coming for Hoffman closer to opening night once the Blues can use LTIR.

Andy Strickland @andystrickland
It is believed that the #stlblues and Hoffman have an understanding of what a one-year contract will look like. Once Steen/Tarasenko are placed on LTIR, and Dunn signed, they’ll be able to officially sign Mike Hoffman. Hearing Hoffman is taking less money to sign in St. Louis.

Honestly the NHL needs it figure out career ending LTIR.
Somebody like Steen shouldn’t be officially on the roster and counting towards the cap if he actually suffers a career ending injury.

Pietro, Steen, Bouw, Maroon, Edmundson and Allen gone from the cup team, plus Tarasenko injured and out for awhile. That is a lot of leadership and experience gone. Should be interesting to see how they do.

Jesus.
Hoffman on a PTO is downright criminal. He's not a complete player, but he can shoot the puck with the absolute elite players in the NHL. Give him a clear lane to the net and he'll give you a good chance of scoring a goal. He's that good with his shot. On top of that, he's an elite powerplay guy.
I'm shocked that nobody else wanted to give this guy a straight up contract. He's not a bum by any stretch, and would instantly upgrade most team's top 6 forwards. I know the NHL is in a cap and revenue crunch, but this is a guy would be good value at up to $5 million a year.
Stunning.

I always assumed it’d be Edmonton that signed him for a year. He would get 70 points in 56 and sign a 6x6.
This is better news.

Would be so easy too with an amendment and just make everything easier
Something as simple as if a player is deemed to be unable to play going forward and must retire, their cap is completely wiped off.
