A buddy of mine texted me during the game this,"They are going out of their way to get the stick stuck in Tkachuk "I said yeah if they where smart they would leave him alone ,that's stuff just feeds him and he likes it, if you leave him alone it's harder for him to get into his game

Smith played amazing and the rest of the team was relentless. In his first playoff game as a head coach Peters had his players more than ready. The skill players were being physical(I never thought I’d see Gaudrau play a game like he did tonight) and overall the team seemed completely unphased by any pressure. I haven’t seen the flames play a playoff game at that level of intensity in over a decade.

Amazing start to the series.
The powerplay gets hot again, PK is rock solid, 3M and DAG lines killing it and Smith was absolutely outstanding. Really liked how the team is pushing back and sticking up for each other.

Also the atmosphere sounded great. Big kudos to the fans and any CPer who was in attendance, I'm jealous. Can't wait for the next game.

Could have been a 4-3 loss if not for Smith. This series is far from over.

If someone would have asked me in November which would be true

A) Flames win the western conference
B) Giordano is the favourite for the Norris
C) Smith gets a shutout in game 1 of the playoffs
D) All of the above

I probably would have asked where's E...

Crazy ride so far. 15 more wins to go!!!

If we didn't have a goalie at all lol

Smith played well but he certainly didn't steal it or anything

Flames dominated 5 on 5

Ok then, honest question. Why couldn't we swallow our pride and give him a cheer at ANY POINT this year? He may have been much better if he just felt some love from the home crowd.

- Smith was outstanding
- 3M line was the best line in the game
- Mangiapane isn’t just an NHLer, he’s an impact player
- Gio was a horse tonight

Thought Colorado was pushing the play in the 1st half, but the team started gaining traction and took over the game. Not sure if Mackinnon, Rantanen and Landeskog will have the legs to be as good next game after playing basically half the game.

The Flames needed to survive the first period, their legs had to be heavy after a long time since the last meaningful game. But once the Flames got motoring the ice tilted pretty heavily in their favor.

The Avs have their first line and a really good goalie and not much else, they're the Oilers with a really good goalie.

The Flames depth should wear the Avs down fairly quickly.

Watching the Avs post game. Wow they are really selling Smith short. Saying he was good but not spectacular and that the Avs didn’t get much on their shots or get many one timers to test him. Then they interview Avs players who both say Smith was the difference in the game. Hot take guys.

Big win but the avs are dangerous enough to make this interesting, even if it’s pretty much just Mackinnon putting the team on his back

3M was great and Bennett/Neal were good

Gio continues to be an absolute horse, he won battle after battle after battle

And Smith was obviously excellent, huge game

And I love the datsyukian stickchecking from Gaudreau, even when he isn’t putting up points, he can still be dangerous defending in transition

Smith played amazingly well, and the Flames' players played great.

We can have both of these things.

Mangiapane is the 6th rookie in Flames history to score a goal in his first playoff game. The last one to do it? Mr. Giordano himself.

You should never have to apologize for good goaltending.
