They work very well, the limitation is energy density. You seem to expect perfect battery tech to come out of nowhere and instantly replace current infrastructure.

Energy density for batteries continues to increase because there is a huge commercial imperative to do so. A couple of sources:

Webb Telescope Tested for Space, Ready for Science

A little bit misleading to say ready for science as it was suppose to launch this October and was is delayed another 6 months, lets hope this latest testing means no more delays or we might see the orangutan pull the funding.

What websites do people prefer for science topics? The battery conversation is quite interesting and I would like to do more reading on that topic.

Try the links at the bottom of the wiki page, it's a start.

Really interesting article about the Parker Solar Probe.

Quote:
This summer, the Parker Solar Probe will launch on a journey that will send it skimming through the sun's atmosphere at a pace of 450,000 mph — fast enough to get from Washington to New York in about a second. It will fly within 4 million miles of the sun's surface — seven times closer than any spacecraft has gotten before. That heat shield will not only be exposed to sunlight, it must withstand blasts of 2,600 degrees Fahrenheit — while simultaneously maintaining the instruments on the other side at roughly room temperature.

After 60 years of advances in science and technology, this craft will probe our star's mysteries and monitor behavior that could affect everyone on Earth. “We will finally touch the sun,” Nicola Fox, the mission's project scientist, likes to say.

“But first,” Wilkerson said, “we have to get it to the launchpad,”

Looks like the falcon heavy is going to debut on February 6th. in addition to launching Elon musks tesla into space they are going to attempt to simultaneously land the 2 boosters back on the ground then the central rocket on the drone ship.

gonna be impressive one way or another.

Extremely impressive if they pull it off.

Here's how it's suppose to go

Nice overview of the Standard Model of particle physics, and the forces, but jump to ~49 mins for a discussion of some interesting studies being done on LHCb that could upset the Standard Model

The researchers believe the local application of very small amounts of the agents could serve as a rapid and relatively inexpensive cancer therapy that is unlikely to cause the adverse side effects often seen with bodywide immune stimulation.

“When we use these two agents together, we see the elimination of tumors all over the body,” said Ronald Levy, MD, professor of oncology. “This approach bypasses the need to identify tumor-specific immune targets and doesn’t require wholesale activation of the immune system or customization of a patient’s immune cells.”

One agent is currently already approved for use in humans; the other has been tested for human use in several unrelated clinical trials. A clinical trial was launched in January to test the effect of the treatment in patients with lymphoma.
Potential new Cancer Treatment. Hopefully it pans out.

Oh man I'm so pumped for the Falcon Heavy launch today. Estimates are saying more than 100,000 people in the area to watch.

Launch is scheduled for 1:30 EDT, so 11:30am here. Weather is currently 80% favourable for launch.
