Friedman's been more miss than bang on with the Flames in his "30 Thoughts", I've been taking anything Flames-related with a grain of salt in those articles.

He's just putting things out there that he's heard from his contacts around the league and even if they don't come to fruition there's probably some smoke to the rumours. I have no doubt Treliving at least kicked the tires just to see what the asking price was because he's probably one of the busiest GM's in the league always on the phone with other GM's but given the obscene price the Avalanche are asking I'm sure the conversation didn't last long.

Just because everything he hears doesn't materialize, doesn't mean he has been "wrong".

It wouldn't shock me to see the Flames continue the all-in approach by chasing Duchene. The Flames do have a very good system right now and many of their top players on the big club are young.

A Brouwer, Frolik, or Stajan contract would have to be moved off the books but the Flames could afford to add Duchene and re-sign Bennett and Kulak

As much as I like Duchene I don't think he's worth what we would have to give up in prospects . He's clearly overpriced and Sakic is delusional in his asking price judging by what he has apparently already turned down

1) Flames trade Stajan @50% retained to Pens for 3rd
2) Flames trade Brouwer + 2nd + Anderson + Mangiapane + Klimchuck for Duchene
3) Flames sign Jagr

Gaudreau - Monahan - Jagr
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Duchene - Lazar
Versteeg - Jankowski - Ferland

Giordano - Hamilton
Brodie - Hamonic
Kulak - Stone

That's a cup winning roster for sure

When was the last time you saw a 5 for 1 asset trade in the NHL? Lindros?

Cap era teams just don't make that kind of trade. Sorry.

Makes no sense for COL. Embarassing HF style proposal.

Considering they would want one of Bennett or Brodie included in the deal, giving up a large unwanted salary (for a guy who wanted to come to Calgary badly and who can control where he wants to go) plus some "stuff" is the complete opposite of what Colorado wants.

You basically gave them a bunch of guys you consider completely expendable.

It's surely the way to build a contender, and its the reason trades like this only get completed on a posting board.

If trades like this occurred, 16 teams would be perpetual playoffs teams, and 16 teams would be perpetual lottery eligible.

Lol, You forgot to add Flames 7th rounders for the next 10 years, then you've gotta deal...

Bad season or not Duchene is one of COL's star forwards and as such is not going to be traded for prospects similar to what you propose. If you wanna make proposals like that take it to HockeysFuture IMO

The idea that quantity will override quality is mystifying.

The Flames get the best player by a mile, in your proposed trade.

Sakic may have been born at night but certainly not last night.

He would scoff at that offer.

#2 would never get it done, Brouwer I believe is still protected by a NTC this year and I highly doubt Colorado is on his list let alone waving in the first place. We don't have anymore 2nd round picks that are lucrative because we spent them on Smith and Hamonic and while Andersson is a debatable blue chip adding two B/C level prospects in eat bread (B) and Klimchuk (C) is just not getting it done for Duchene.

This will cost 1 of Bennett or Jankowski 1 of Andersson or Kylington and Colorado taking a realistic contract dump like Stajan - which is still iffy as he has a modified NTC so who knows if he's even got Colorado on his radar.
