They’re local. They don’t travel.

Off ice officials don't travel around. They are the same crew most every night and from the local teams area.

At one point it was just a stipend and a good meal for a nights work, but now i think they get about 100 bucks a game.

I will say though, its about as good a seat as one can get to a game when working one of the timekeeping/penalty box areas. The stat guys however are a looong way from the ice surface...usually in the press box area.

Edit: see above.

My cousin is an off ice official for The Jets and he has a regular job, just doing the OIO job for fun. Perhaps they get paid an hourly rate now, but it isn’t much. He certainly isn’t traveling.

I’d bet guys running the clock are too busy making sure they don’t mess up to enjoy the game.

I was petrified screwing up the clock for pee wee (U12 now?) games. NHL would take some work.

He was already beaned and on 1st, he could have ended it there.

The worst! I let a kid out of the box trying to be all eager, grabs it for a breakaway, tweet, too many men penalty, I let him out on a coincidental, he comes right back with a penalty that was my fault. I felt like crap.

Isn't this controversy way overblown? Treliving is too disturbed to talk to media about it? What? 5 game suspension. Who cares.

And why was he beaned? These are dominoes.

This reads like a guy that has never been crosschecked in the head.

Would anyone dismissing the severity of the cross check like to volunteer to put a helmet on and have Rielly reenact it on them?

Or a guy that has been crosschecked in the head too much. Either one.

Why are we asking for volunteers. We could put a list together.

Since it’s no big deal I feel like we’ll have some volunteers.

My list would mostly be unrelated to the thread.

Have to wonder if coming in lower than the potential for 6 games with the in-person hearing was Parros' way of saying "don't appeal this one and take your medicine".

There have been a lot of appeals lately which has to be embarrassing. Wonder if Leafs could actually face more than 5 after appeal is done.

It is possible. This is from the 1994 F1 season:

Quote:
Eddie Irvine remained at Jordan for 1994 and was again partnered by Rubens Barrichello. At the opening round in Brazil, Irvine was involved in a four car crash. He later received a one-race ban and a $10,000 fine by the race stewards. Irvine appealed to the FIA against the decision, but his appeal was rejected on 6 April, and the penalty increased to a three-race ban. His seat was filled by Aguri Suzuki for the following Pacific Grand Prix, and Andrea de Cesaris for the races in San Marino and Monaco.

I don't think it's happened in pro team sports though. But it's technically possible.

Good interview with Torts on the TSN website on the thread topic. Interesting to hear his thoughts. He’s a straight shooter.

That is the wrong call by the ref. Timekeeper error is not a penalty.

There's nothing worse than a couple dozen parents yelling "CLOCK" at you.
Lord save you if there's mixed penalties.

I figured there was a good argument for a monopoly on score clock systems so at least they'd all work the same (and maybe via phone app).
