Icon23 Keith Says No to Free Agency

Keith Stays With Rebuilding 'Canes

As has been rumored for some time, the Carolina Hurricanes have pegged defender Duncan Keith as their core piece to their defensive trio. The team has announced a three-year deal worth $22.5M for the veteran rearguard, who should end his career as a Carolina Hurricane.

Keith, 36, because a contract risk for the Hurricanes, signing a player to this long term of a deal at his stage of his career is dangerous, but GM Hanna Sniper has belief that Keith will be able to sustain his position and a No.1 defender in the NHL or simply walk away from the game rather then taking a minimal role on a NHL team. So the only risk to the Hurricanes is for this season alone, outside of that, it will be wait and see what Keith decides.

After joining the Canes last off-season, Keith played a full 82 games and scored 13 goals and 27 assists for a total of 40 points with a scoring deficient Canes squad. Keith will share the top minutes with Drew Doughty and Erik Karlsson till a solution has been found in regards to who will receive top power-play minutes.

Duncan does speaks very fondly of his playing days in Long Island, I have to admit it would be nice to see Duncan have one more Stanley Cup run before he retires. We as an organization wouldn't stand in his way if such a opportunity came about
