2 mins to hit an 8 foot putt is inexcusable.

I can handle the 70 yard shot taking a bit longer due to him getting releif from the TV camera.

Sure, but a full walk and back on a 70 yard shot?

Yes, especially if you are out of position, which he was.

I think what they should do it after the 40 seconds are up the event officials lower their arms and the crowd gets to start heckling.

Best chirp drinks for free in the clubhouse?

The networks should refuse to put him on TV so his sponsors pull out.

Ha, you beat me to it. I was going to sggest the same thing - the crowds should start booing and heckling. If the PGA won't voluntarily do something about slow play on their own then maybe fans can force the issue.

What do you guys think of the new "head start" rules for the tour championship? I mean, I like it in theory as it was silly having a "tour championship" trophy and winner at the exact same time as the actual trophy "fed ex cup" was being played for and won.

On the other hand, the actual tournament itself will feel kind of silly to watch, imo, as a 10 stroke lead is insane.

I really like it. It's far better than having two winners, which was confusing at best.

It's similar to skiing in that the leader carries their performance through to the last run, when the medals are awarded.

I didn't realize the format had changed, now that I have had some time to digest it I'm intrigued. It seems like a novel way to do it so will be interested to see how it works. But the #1 player will only start with a 10 shot lead over the last ranked players, he will only be 2 shots ahead of the player immediately behind him.

Do they pair the players immediately in the first round based on the 'starting' score?

They were paired by points in the past.

I would expect the same this year, but I haven't seen anything official.

I want to clarify I'm not an advocate of slow play. When I caddied at the ATB a few years ago, we had the early/late draw. The Friday afternoon round took 6 hours. It was agonizing. 2+ hours to play 10 and 11 until they figured out to wave the group behind up.

Here is an ESPN article that talks about some of the changes: https://www-espn-com.cdn.ampproject....p?platform=amp

Nice 1st round for Hadwin. He's probably going to need solo 4th to get to the Tour Championship.

Connors needs a couple good rounds. Top 15 should get him through.

Hadwin and Connors are T5. Hadwin is at #32, definitely needs solo 4 to get through.

That would suck for hadwin to come so close again after being 36 last year. Making it to the top 30 is huge for next year. It would get him into these tournaments:
WGC-HSBC Champions

· WGC-Mexico Championship

· Masters Tournament

· U.S. Open

· The Open Championship

Well Hadwin is likely toast after today but nice to see Conners playing like he belongs with the top 30 players ever since his win.
