I think the assumption is he's signed or it's known that he will agree to a contract that the Flames have in mind.
Otherwise, yeah, he's at risk of being a rental.

To Columbus: Mike Smith, 2019 first-round pick, Jon Gillies or Tyler Parsons I hate seeing a 2019 1st AND one of our goalie hopefuls going the other way, but Bob here would be absolutely unreal. I think if you can do anything that keeps this current roster together and upgrades Smith you're pretty tempted to do it.
Thoughts?

A First? No way. Lets see how far Rittich can take us before we go nuclear.

If Calgary needs to make a play for a new starter, which they may if Smith can't pull it together. The 1st round pick has to be in play unless the Flames are dumping a key player on the roster.
I don't know if I trust Rittich to be a full fledged starter in a season where a lot is hanging on BT's head.

Perhaps a rebuilding Ducks team would entertain a trade?

Only for a kings ransom but I doubt they would trade within the division to a rival who desperately needs a good starter.

Lol i dont even think the ducks would trade us Gibson for tkachuk. Goalies at that level are never traded interdivision. Not that we would ever offer chucky but theres no reasonable way to make Gibson a flame

With our luck Bobrovsky comes in and continues his .899 Save Percentage with all of our HDCA. I wouldn't be moving a first personally were still not quite contender status imo and he hasn't been great this year. I would be open to other trades for him though.

Peters needs to give Rittich the chance, he should of got the start last night, or at least put in after the 2nd goal to wake the team up. I said last year that Rittich will take the #1 job this season and I stand by that statement, if he gets the chance.

No, Gibson is young and he’s their entire future right now. Not happening.

Likely not as far as Bobrovsky.
If you could get Bobrovsky with an extension for that price, start the ####ing car.

Keep in mind our first would likely be a late pick....probably 31st overall....

Aaron Dell would be a nice target. 29 years old. He's played 59 games. 2.40 GAA and a .920 Sv%.
It doesn't Hurt that he is from Airdrie and has played well every time he is in the dome.
His contract is 1,900,000 AVV until 2020-21.
I believe that a combination of him and Rittich would give the Flame a fighting chance.

If we trade more high round picks, there is going to be a serious problem with having no elc players on the roster in a few years. That could be a disaster.

Why would SJ send their quality backup? They are still expecting big things this year.

No thanks.
Time to stop banking on 30/near-30 year old goalies who have never proven to be anything but what they already are.
If you're going after an unproven/high quality prospect goalie, he has to be young. Otherwise, you go for the surest thing you can. No more half measures. Make the position a strength for the team going forward.
Pay the price, go get Bobrovsky.

This is the truth. Why would any team trade one of their goalies in the middle of the season. Odds are Smith, and Rittich will be the combo all season long. Hopefully one of them has 40 good games in them.
