England-Croatia are 1-1 with 10 minutes left (Lingard with the equalizer).

Should be wild as both need to win.

This also ensures that England will at least be in the playoffs for Euro2020 qualifying.

It's confusing.

Netherlands score two in the last five minutes to win their group. Nations League final four will be England, Portugal, Netherlands and Switzerland.

Luka with a clean sweep of personal awards for this year, winning theBallon d'Or.

Man, what a year it's been. I ghosted in the WC thread because I couldn't take the excitement anymore and I packed up my little family and we went to Zagreb to take it all in. What an insane experience it was watching the WC Final with 550,000 other Croatians and the homecoming was just as crazy.

I haven't had the heart to re-watch the Final, but I will at some point soon. It's so heartbreaking, yet such a proud moment. Many times I still can't believe I was part of that.

One of these times I hope one of the female athletes actually claps back when they get put in embarrassing situations by sexist losers. I know that probably will end up hurting her more because that's society, but it'd be nice for once to see these losers put in their place.

Modric winning the Ballon D’or doesn’t sit well with me. He was great during the World Cup but his team had an easy path and he didn’t win it and he didn’t do much in the final. He was key to Real Madrid winning the CL but so was Varane and Varane was also key to France winning the World Cup. The Ballon D’or has zero critea, because if you want to argue that Modric deserved the Ballon D’or this year then how the hell don’t you give it to Iniesta in 2010. Modric is a tremendous player but there’s no way in hell you can convince me that he was the best player in the world last season. I even think Mbappe would’ve made a better choice, he’s been tremendous all year and won the World Cup while scoring in the final and 2 vs Argentina.

So who do you think deserved it? Varane or Mbappe? You don't really make arguments.

Frankly I think if it wasn't Modric it should have been Griezmann (gross) or Ronaldo who had a great year also.

I’m not sure but the best player in the world last year was not Modric. I would’ve given it to Ronaldo, Messi, Varane, Mbappe over him. His stats also aren’t that amazing, and I mean he didn’t even win the World Cup. You haven’t really explained why he should’ve won it.

Modric was the right call. Happy they looked beyond goals/stats for a change.

... you're joking, right? It's freaking Croatia. Nobody expected them to get nearly as far as they did.

I wasn't arguing he should have or shouldn't have, you were. Then you proceeded to basically say it should have been someone, you don't know who, but definitely not Modric. Kind of a weird argument.

His accolades from 2018 speak for themselves, so it's not a surprise he won the Ballon d'Or. Varane came close to Modric's accolades, but still didn't have as many, nor was he as instrumental in France's WC campaign as Modric was for Croatia.

Modrics stats don’t speak for themselves. He was very good in the World Cup but I didn’t think it warranted winning a Ballon D’or. His season so far this year has been pretty uneventful while Madrid continues to struggle. If accolades are all that matter than many players of past year have gotten robbed of the award. Many had a much better case than Modric.

which "stats" are you talking about? Because goals and assists mean nothing when it comes to a midfielder.

he was a key player in another CL victory and took Croatia to a WC final. I really don't know what else he could have done. I think you could argue that Varane would have deserved it as well, but I think Modrics impact was a lot bigger.
