Knowing something about the making of digital games and game design, Tears of the Kingdom is kind of incredible. There's so much there, executed so well, so polished that it kind of puts a lot of the competition to shame.

Almost a beacon of light in what has been kind of a crappy era in AAA gaming. (Not that there isn't other good stuff out there.) Love it.

I'm probably just being a babby and need to actually commit to getting into it. But Tears of the Kingdom almost feels like it has too much freedom that it's overwhelming and puts me off. Hold my hand and show me what to do and how to do it dammit.

I'd shifted gears to Diablo4 but now that that's feeling like even more of a grind maybe I'll go back to Tears this weekend.

I got the Tony Hawk combo during their summer sale, purely because I remember playing it for hours on the PS. I am horrible at it. I screw up the landing on vert probably every 3-4 jumps, thus losing my special build up. And I feel like the map times are way too short.

I'm probably just old. Plus I was never much of a console gamer overall.

The main quests also kind of function as tutorials, so you can get acclimated by following those and collecting the Sage abilities. You can also always go back to Lookout Landing and talk to Purah if you feel lost.

Shrines are great for learning how to use the mechanics, you can learn a whole bunch of tricks from them.

Agreed I felt the same way. Like a feeling like you want to be able to experience everything and explore everything but know you’ll never be able to because you don’t have enough time. It is overwhelming a bit. The world is enormous.

Throwing out a recommendation to check out Tents and Trees, a fun little puzzler. It plays similar to Picross but with a couple extra twists. Has tons and tons of puzzles to check out including new daily puzzles. I grabbed it for myself and my wife over the weekend and we're both hooked. A steal on sale right now for just $2.75

Got a Nintendo switch for the kids so that they could have an “all-in-1” console to play NES, SNES, Sega & N64 games.

There seems to be quite a bit of lag in those emulators though. Anyone else experience this? And is there a fix?

Are you talking about the Switch Online services for those consoles? Can't say I've ever noticed enough lag for it to be distracting. Maybe it's your TV?

Yes the Switch Online.

It's actually the N64 where the lag was distracting, the other emulators hardly noticeable, so my initial post was incorrect.

Playing Mario64 for example was pretty irritating.

When I wanted an All-in-One console to play emulators, the Nvidia Shield TV Pro was the way to go.

Also new amiibos coming out.. I haven't seen any bigger higher quality statues of Zelda yet though, would be interested in one maybe.

This looks like the biggest leap for a 2D Mario game since Super Mario World on the SNES, and I'm so happy that there's more than 1 female playable character. Finally I can play a Mario game with my daughters without them fighting over who gets to be Peach

Need to save some new characters for Super Mario Bros Wonder Deluxe when the Switch 2 port comes out.
